Sorry, got to go, have to prepare for triggering WWIII.

See, I don't agree with the "Nedaverse" spelling, with an A instead of an I. While said plane of reality is indeed supposed to be very much averse to Ned (judging by the number of conspiracies it mounts against him and his), the introduction of a foreign letter to a portmanteau word is just dotty. There's no A in "Ned" or "Universe," so...I guess it's just one of those insane things that occurs for no reason. Okay, maybe it's fitting after all.

Wars will come and go according to what the STRUCTURE says [/70s attitude]
Etchy, I think this is fundamentally correct. It also underlines US policy to establish structures that secure the peace.
Still, during the Cuban Missle Crisis, the US and the USSR still almost went to war.
But back to the topic, I think that both Serbia (or elements in their government) and Mao fully intended to provoke the wars that did follow.
I also think that Britain seized the "opportunity" in 1914 to reduce German power on the continent, to seize their overseas possessions and to dismember the Ottomans. There was nothing noble about Britain's war aims except for their propaganda.
