Yep. Someone, somewhere says it is true and I am supposed to accept that as an authority?

But seriously, what can be done about Iran. Clearly they are going after a nuke. And given the fact that both them as well as Israel are nuts enough to use them if pushed to the limit I don't think that is an option.

Any dreamers here with an idea of how to get these two countries to talk ? I mean, if the US and the USSR could do it, why not these two ey ?
The one serious achilles heel the Iranians have is limitted to no refinery capability. If a serious coalition and/or sanctions could be brought to bear eliminating their petrol supply would have devastating consequences toot sweet.

Then of course one would have to understand the ramifications of that upping the ante move.

[Quote]The Arab World and the Challenge of Iran's Nuclear Empowerment

          By Nader Habibi

          Al-Jazeerah, April 29, 2006

Iran’s nuclear program which passed a major threshold in early April, with the successful enrichment of uranium up to 3.5% has posed a strategic challenge not only to the United States and Western Europe but also to Iran’s neighbors, particularly the Arab world. The potential military application of Iran’s nuclear program has worried some Arab governments. A few GCC leaders, such as the high ranking officials of United Arab Emirates have expressed deep concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. At the same time, Syria, which maintains close ties with Iran, has expressed support for Iran’s nuclear program. NO! You're joking!

While at present the Arab countries are not under any pressure to take a stand on the Iran nuclear crisis, the situation might change within the next few months. If the United States convinces other major powers to impose an economic sanction on Iran, it will most likely ask the Arab countries to participate in this sanction. If it fails to obtain the United Nations’ support for a comprehensive economic sanction, the United States might choose a military option for which it will need to use its military bases in Bahrain, Qatar and United Arab Emirates. There is no doubt that a military strike against Iran will have very serious consequences for the entire Middle East region.

Hence the Arab countries must decide on whether to support or oppose a potential U.S. military operation against Iran. To address this question the Arab governments must first decide on whether the success of Iran’s nuclear program (to which I will refer from here on as Iran’s nuclear empowerment) will be in the interest of the Arab world or not. In the remaining sections of this article I will focus on this question and shed light on some of the many ways that Iran’s nuclear program could affect the Arab world.
Any money out there wanting to bet on Iran being peaceful towards other Arab nations?

But are they? I've developed my own theory on this, but it is kind of complex and thus quite prone to external change.

It looks like the Iranians are hoping to be nuked. It would be a nice way for Israel to remind the Islamists not to **** with them by erasing the ten largest cities in Iran.

Well, I'm glad someone else notices that Wikipedia can be edited by just about anyone. Who knows? Maybe *I* went into the entry in question and, well, just added the deaths on a whim. I mean, gosh, who's really gonna double-check a little thing like that? The Wiki folks are watching the political entries nowadays, not the little stuff.

The US refused UN command. In fact, I've never heard of a US soldier ever wearing a blue helmet. When the US acts, it is as a sovereign nation. Sometimes allied with the UN, but never under UN command.

GB1 did not stop the tanks from rolling because of the UN, but because of allies.
