    Yes I do. I think a lot of American object to

    1) being here illegally;

    2) lowering wage rates for unskilled labor;

    3) being off-the-books with respect to taxes;

    4) being on-the-books with respect to social services support.

    Border states are being killed by illegal immigrants. This is not about culture alone.

    • How do illegal immigrants affect people who are applying for legal immigration?

      If there are many jobs that Americans won't do, and potential immigrants that will, why would a company hire and look for a legal one and deal with all the fees and paperwork when they can hire an illegal one for cheaper wages? Would a decline in illegal immigrants create a demand for immigration of legal immigrants who are protected under US from being abused by employers?

      The main point is that the US immigration policy itself needs to be fixed. If there are jobs Americans won't do, it should be easier for immigrants to legally enter and take them.

        Obviously.

        Which puts a lie to the shibboleth that this is about "jobs that Americans won't do."

          • I wandered across a symposium on cable last night. An LA County Supervisor (Zev Yaraslowki (sp?)), an LA City Councilman (Garcetti) and two other guys who I don't know were the panelists. They said some interesting things.

            Zev: 46% if the people in LA County are immigrants.

            Zev: If all the illegal immigrants in L.A. County were to incorporate into their own city, it would be the sixth largest city in California.

            Garcetti: He attended the afternoon rally at La Brea. Looking back along Wilshire, all he could see were people. LA Police reported to him they were backed up all the way to the Harbor Fwy, as estimated 500,000 - 600,000 demonstrators.

            ?#1: Student cutting class to attend the noon rally cost LAUSD $2,000,000 in lost revenue. However, if the LAUSD were to spend $2,000,000 on a program to increase student interest in current events and it arosed the amount of enthusiam these protests did, the school district would consider the program to be a rousing success.
