Even if this were true, it could ONLY be true of the parties that currently have a large portion of the refining market. THis could not apply to parties that do not own refineries in the US marketplace currently and it would likely be only of marginal application to the folks with smaller chunks of the market.

Not the question I asked. You said there were very good refinery projects that were not done.

Nope. a local retailer or group of retailers may have but refiners ?? As has been shown repeatedly its a marginal business with rates of profits that would not interest most investors as they are too LOW.

I doubt that right now you would find many of the oil majors would want to look at doing refineries since they are stretched just trying to pump more oil and thats a much higher margin business

If refineries would have been built it would have been a net benefit to society (California anyway).

I've found a figure. In the threads, I've found argumentations (and my posts were also argumentations), but I don't remember a factual figure stating that crude was x times more than the price of refining in the final price.

OK -- Lets assume thats true.

"Net benefit to society" sounds like a government function not one that a given business enterprise is responsible for

They may want to take responsibility to avoid attention from the govt.

True-- Here is Canada such information is pretty common knowledge. They post a pie chart on all the gasoline pumps showing the breakdown.

                              • byw, I think the solutions proposed by the govt are pretty crappy. The rebate thing is just pathetic. I'm amazed at how stupid they think we are. Even the average American can see that that won't do a damn thing to fix the situation.
