Turning toilets away from Mecca will not make Muslim criminals more sympathetic to western ideals. They probably see it as a weakness.

Have muslim prisoners rioted over toilet direction? How much has incorrect toilet direction cost thus far?

I call it protecting society. And pointlessly pissing people off ain't protecting society.

It's not about turning them into peace-loving hippies, but about not giving the evil overlords ideological ammunition if it's not neccessary....

How can they tell which way Mecca is when they go into a toilet cubicle. Do they carry a compass in with them?
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

I really don't think things like this make much difference to evil overlords. Do you imagine them thinking to themselves "They turned the toilets away from Mecca! Darn, foiled again!"

This is clearly a sign of the End Times. Next they'll be suggesting we don't lock people up for listening to the Clash.

Right, Cali, and obviously you're in a position to know what they're thinking. Muslims are mindless killing automatons that react negatively to compassion.

Have muslim prisoners rioted over toilet direction? How much has incorrect toilet direction cost thus far?
Obviously it affects morale enough that they're lobbying the warden, so contributes to their unhappiness.

Can you tell me how many billions of pounds were lost because the warden took the time to hear the prisoners' concerns?

You're making a totally absurd argument. You must reailize that.

                Coddling prisoners protects society?
Not pointlessly pissing prisoners off protects society. Giving them a modicum of compassion decreases our taxes, and makes them less of a threat when they're released. And being in prison doesn't mean you're inhuman, believe it or not.

                  THIS is a stupid argument.

Just so I'm clear on it.....

Those of you who are actually arguing in favor of such nonsense as this, your position is that we "shouldn't antagonize the poor prisoners" by making them sit facing Mecca when taking a dump.

Morale had been dropping in jail, because they had to face Mecca while taking a dump?

                    Is that about right?

If so....and if I may make a couple of haphazard observations:

                    * If facing Mecca while taking a dump is so troubling to them that their "morale is suffering" then maybe they should reflect on the fact that they are in JAIL, as opposed to daycamp.

                    * If it's that big a deal, then they can learn to hold it....for a very long time.

                    * What's next? If a group of them claim to be spiritually deprived cos they don't have a tennis court, should we build that too? If we don't, isn't that snubbing the cult of tennis playing islamics, in preference for their more prayer-centric cousins? And why stop there? I'm sure you could find at least a few prisoners who feel spirtually deflated by not having a whorehouse on the prison grounds. Let's add one! And a shopping mall, and a....

Where do I sign up, man...this is a great gig!

That this is even being discussed is a) embarassing to England, and b) a new low, even for 'poly OT.

                    *shakes head, amazed*

                      QFT!

By Cali's rationale, we should ban chaplains and Bibles, because it may give prisoners happiness, and it is supposed to be punishment!

Why anyone is even trying to argue with Cali is beyond me...
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
                        Once again...

Note that I said "Muslim criminals" - small distinction there.

In the scheme of things this isn't really a big deal.

Sitting sideways on a toilet is not a great hardship. And what makes you think that these sort of perks decreases taxes and makes them less of a threat? If anything I think it would make them more of a threat because the more comfortable prison is, the less of a deterrent the threat of going there is.

Chaplains and Bibles are there to help morally uplift these degenerates, not "make them happy".

That's right! Arguing that this is somehow 'giving in' (as akin to throwing in the towel on the WoT) as opposed to a small, almost costless concession to a religious belief is an absolutely stupid argument.

What's next? Ban Bibles because they cost money and pay make the prisioners happier in their spiritual life?
