In addition, some important support facilities like Port Fourchon, got pretty trashed. Most of the supplies / parts, etc are ferried out to the rigs from there, and they just got fully back up an running last week. This probably didn't ever appear on the evening news.

That occurred to me, but the media seemed to hype the refinery closings and completely disregard the upstream production closing. For that reason I'd assumed that the platforms managed to keep drilling.
Nope--- a storm like that-- they evacuate the platforms and usually cease both drilling and production (to prevent a major spill). There might be exceptions but I tend to think that would be the general procedure

Not to be too simplistic but my recollection is that the Gulf has drilling pretty much EVERYWHERE ( except the protected coastal areas like Florida)
