  • I just want to point out that the Wings and Oilers both ended up with 22 penalty minutes.

Wasn't the commissioner at the game? Since his mandate is to keep calling penalties in the playoffs, it seems like the refs are calling more penalties when he's at their game, just to show they're working.

    • It's always a bad sign when the teams end up with exactly the same number of penalty minutes.

      • I heard this on another forum, and I liked it, and had to share :

Some things never change. Just like the last 7 seasons, the Rangers stopped playing after 82 games.

        • Ouch. It's been so long since the Rangers were any good that I totally missed their resurgence (I was a Ranger fan once upon a time). I haven't watched hockey in quite a while (combo of an embarrassing Rangers team and then the strike idiocy). I don't even know who is on the team (I've heard stuff about Jagr, but that's it).

          • The Wings have been intending to injure? Really?

The Chelios hit was brutal, but I don't think there was an intent to injure. He made first contact when he was side-by-side the Oilers player. That exact same hit with the players going the same speed and the same trajectories anywhere else on the ice wouldn't have been a problem. Unfortunately, being to close to the corner, the Oiler went headfirst into the boards.

Definitely not an intent to injure, but it definitely could have been a boarding call.

Lindy Ruff has his team controlled. They just need to turn the offense back on.

First he slashed/tripped Hemsky in the legs and then fired him into the boards with his arms. And the puck was there, so how could it not have been seen?

I don't think any of the refs have ever had mind reading devices.

'Intent to injure' is a consequence of the act, not knowledge of the player's thoughts. What Chelios did was extremely dangerous.

Then there was the head shot to Peca in the same game, boarding Harvey in game 2, and a kneeing call that was also missed/ignored in game 1.

What makes it all the more laughable is that Peca was called for boarding when he hit a guy shoulder into chest and the Wings player didn't hit the boards!

Btw, how is that "New Jersey doesn't match up well against the Rangers" prediction doing so far?

**** the refs for not calling that.

                          • I think what everyone is most worried about is the potential for his eyeball being slashed open. The swelling would be a side effect of that.
