  • I think she's into some Peta-like stuff
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

I can understand to some extent "fed-up" votes (Haider voters in Austria were much due to Socialist rule through decades). But this generally means being fed-up with the government. And the one who ruled the country over a good bunch of years now is Berlusconi if my memory doesn't fail.
To me, it makes little sense.

Also, I hope "throw away" illegal immigrants is an expression you chose by mistake.
"The world is too small in Vorarlberg". Austrian ex-vice-chancellor Hubert Gorbach in a letter to Alistar [sic] Darling, looking for a job...
"Let me break this down for you, fresh from algebra II. A 95% chance to win 5 times means a (95*5) chance to win = 475% chance to win." Wiglaf, Court jester or hayseed, you judge.

      • I've been hearing that one of the reasons for Italy's economic woes is that it failed to institute price controls when it converted to the euro, sparking rampant profiteering amongst retailers. Could the Italians here comment on this?

Ah, but they work in politician stuff. We all know that's not real work. *sigh*

          • Fantastic, now they found some 1,000,000 thrown away votes. Boxes full of votes abandoned right on the street. Berlusconi asked for a recount and President of Italy, Ciampi, refused to give Prodi the authorization for forming a new government until this clears up.

                • Spiffor, I found a map so you can figure out who's voting for Berlusconi

I find this map very funny as it shows I am living in the strongholds of both coalitions. Lombardia for the CDL, Emilia-Romagna for the Unione. My hometown (Varese) is the birthplace of the Lega Nord, while the city where I study (Bologna) is the Communist symbol of Italy.

And a graph- Prodi must be kicking himself to death for losing almost 20 points

I've been hearing that one of the reasons for Italy's economic woes is that it failed to institute price controls when it converted to the euro, sparking rampant profiteering amongst retailers. Could the Italians here comment on this?
Very easy. A pizza used to cost 10,000 lire. (4 dollars) Now it's 10 euros. A bus ticket, 1000 lire, 1 euro. A student's room in a shared apartment in Bologna, 300,000 lire. 300 euros. The average income, 2 million lire, 2000 euros.

The whole country went like this. There's who blames Berlusconi for not punishing who raised the prices (almost every single person in Italy I have to admit) and who blames Prodi as the inventor of the Euro.

                      • When the prices went skyrocketing, what happened to wages? (IE, was this straight (wage+price) inflation, or just price inflation?)

I couldn't imagine having prices x2.5 nearly instantly, without wages going up at least x2 ... otherwise you'd have no-one to buy the products, and way too many starving etc. people (unless pre-Euro, Italy was a haven of overemployed people with high salaries ... )

Are these actually true countrywide though? Though Wiki may not be the best source, it indicates between 2.5 and 15% immediate increases, but otherwise a pretty solid inflation rate in line with EU norms, which is darned impressive all things considered (as Italy traditionally was an inflationary country, largely due to monetary policy) ...

Perhaps the lire-Euro or lire-dollar (or Euro-dollar) valuations were ultimately not in line with what was expected (particularly lire-Euro)?

Regardless, comparing wages to prices under lire and under Euro is the only real way to show this ...
