  • Daily Show or Colbert Report?

Which is the better show? For my part, I think The Colbert Report is clearly the better of the two. It's the whip smart parody of the media business that The Daily Show used to be before Stewart and Co. starting believing their own press...

    edit:
Once the new show was announced, Colbert says, he was often asked: "Are you guys going to continue the 'Daily Show' tradition of injecting a note of gravity into late-night comedy?" His response: "God, I hope not."

Tough call. I think I'd still give the slight edge to the Daily Show, but for me they're tracking in opposite directions. Won't be long before I give the Colbert Report the advantage.

I'm going with the Report. Its slightly more witty, though I enjoy both programs.

Colbert is similar to Kilborne in that they both could play spot-on caricatures of the figures in the media they were trying to parody. Stewart can't play anyone other than himself, for better or for worse.

Both shows are too into themselves these days.

The Word, on the Report though, is defintely some of the best five minutes of television every day

Colbert Report is my pick. Just a brilliant parody in every respect.

And the interviews are actually fun to watch.

The "truthiness" thing is wearing a little thin, so the Daily Show is my pick.

I do love "The Word", however.

For me, the Daily Show is consistently good, while the Colbert Report has its off-nights.

Plus, I prefer Jon Stewart to Stephen Colbert.

But I think both shows are hilarious.

                        Colbert.

Of course it doesn't help that The Daily Show is on when we're putting the kids to bed....

Daily Show I can understand how it may get tired, but John Steward is brilliant as the faux anchor - enough gravitas to seem realistic, and a wonderful deadpan comedy. Plus John Hodgman, Ed Helms and Rob Corddry are brilliant.

The Daily Show has been going downhill, and Colbert is getting better.

They crossed at some point around the start of 2006

                              Colbert Report, no question.

However, back when the Daily Show had Stephen Colbert on it, the Daily Show was much better than it is now.

Colbert's really venturing into new territory here, doing his show completely in character, including interviews. He even talks to the press in character, outside of the set. And the Word is brilliant.
