Yup, just what the title says. I just found out today that one of the patients that I've been taking care of for the last two months has been in a room with someone who has TB. Not only that but the one with TB was always coughing and stuff whenever I went in to get the other guy (Mr. Butts) yes, that's his real name. Anyway Mr. Butts usually winds up coughing in my face a few times when he's been in the shower.
My employer is trying to act like it's no big deal and "we aren't even sure if he has it, it was actually the roommate." Yeah, well then why is the TB test I got on my arm today making a big freeking red circle. Yes, your not sure but that's suddenly why you had me fitted for a mask today. When the nurse went over some of the symptoms of TB, night sweats, unexplained weight loss, unexplained fever....I'm sitting there going yes, yes, yes. I've been loosing weight since I started working at that facility but I just figured it was because I was being active and had changed my eating habbits. Over the course of the last couple of weeks I've been getting fevers at night and in the morning for no reason. Had one so bad the other night I took some nyquil thinking I was coming down with something...but nothing.
Really freeking out here a bit. My daughter already has bronchil ashma as well as my husband and his mother has emphazema. How crappy would I feel if I passed this on to her or them not to mention to my pregnant daughter. And to top this all off they still want me to continue to take care of him. "Well you'll be provided with gown, gloves, masks." That would have been so helpful before. Husband doesn't want me to continue to take care of that patient, even wants me to get another job. Which is hard for me because patient care is all I've ever wanted to do.
I'm not really sure how to feel about this....really freeking out.
