I think it is this which demonstrates the case I was making in another thread, can't remember which now. People have to be protected against unscrupulous employers who have no regard for people or their wellbeing, and there should be far more considerable employment rights. Being sacked can make it very hard to find another job and can impact not just on the individual but their family, especially if their financial situation becomes troubled as a result. Sacking is very hard to explain away to a prospective employer, and it is an unacceptable situation if done unfairly...

Just curious, but why did he stay 12 years at a place where the boss didn't like him and he didn't get any promotions ? Is he masochist ?
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

ya -- I'm thinking in Canada the rule of thumb is usually 2-4 weeks notice per year of service. So 12 years of continuous service would be worth at least 6 months pay as a kiss-off

What the hell does that have to do with capitalism?

While I don't want do automatically call your freinds story bull, are you sure his polite disagreement was not a "your a ****ing idiot" comment?

And what exactly did he do there? If he is a twelve year employee and was still in a position to be summarily fired he could not have been that productive.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

You know you're right. The exact same thing could happen to someone that pissed off the local party boss in a communist society.

In capitalism, he can find work from other employers . . . In communism . .. well are there any other employers??

I had a cashier working for me once who was way faster than any other cashier. She was a real ***** though who couldn't get along with people so I fired her.

That was why I asked how large the firm was. The bigger the company the more unrest that can be tolerated. In a small firm an unhappy employee can be a huge liability.

Yeah, in the capitalist system he can go and screw up somewhere else.

If your brother was getting stonewalled on promotions for 12 straight years, he should've moved on long before it came to this.

Bad career planning on his part.

I would really like to know what the job was. Time at a company means jack no matter how hard you work if you don't advance. Basically you are always doing an entry level position well, and most people can do that.

Hell, in the military if you don't promote we kick you out, and according to everyone here we are apparently "overstreched." He is lucky his dead weight was caried around as long as it was, unless you wish to provide details that he was moving up in his job.
