  • A horray for capitalism!!

My older brother worked his ass off for the past 12 years at a factory and always has had strong work ethics.

I found out today that he got fired for political-bull**** reasons. Here's to capitalism -- screwing the workers over for any reason BUT work productivity.

Did you ever expect any better? I do likewise but never get any better thought of for what I do...

      Define "political bull**** reasons".

I think I'd fire him just for being Funboy's brother

My brother's boss personally did not like him. Also, my brother has, several times in the past, tried to apply for a promotion but his boss consistently stonewalled his request for promotion. A couple of days ago, my brother expressed his opinion with someone else against the recent firing of another co-worker. My brother's boss found out, and promptly fired him regardless of his long history of hard work at the factory.

I knew this thread would be sarcastic when I saw who the opening poster was

                Oh and was he

"fired" -- ie for cause OR
terminated with a severance package OR

are you in one of those draconian right to work states where proper notice is unheard of

There is no union where my brother worked, and Iowa is an work-at-will state IIRC.

Here in the civilised world (), the amount of money he would get from an industrial tribunal for that would be quite considerable when you consider his service...

                        "expressed his opinion"

My guess he was strongly against this management decision?

How can merely expressing one's opinion negatively affect work productivity?

Yeah -- workplace politics also cost one of my friends her career position in spite of her strong work ethics, her technical skills and competence, and her intelligence. She is working elsewhere now, and her old company has suffered a decline in productivity and lower morale among workers since she had been fired.
