Today, the National Weather Service and other authorities consider heat to be the leading weather-related cause of death. (Related: Understanding heat and its dangers).

But, unlike victims of floods, lightning, tornadoes or hurricane, those killed by the heat often are not recognized as victims of the weather.

You won't see me apologize for getting Brown's head. He was quite clearly out of his depth throughout his appearances during and after Katrina.

But he was just the tip of a very deep, very ineffectual iceburg.

The man should have never been in the job in the first place. So, removing him was the right way to go. I think a bunch of people dying kinda is a good reason for termination don't you?

On the other hand this new evidence shows he was making an effort and was showing an experienced hand at administration and leadership, even if his knowledge area in disaster crisis management wasn't so strong. Certain leadership traits will carry across to whatever job you're in, but for the man at the highest level of government that deals with disasters, yeah, experience in actually dealing with them might be a little valuable, don't you think?

Nobody was claiming he should have never been removed. This just shows, at minimum, that he wasn't TOTALLY incompetent and out to lunch.

Sorry man your "a person has to make an opinion and never change it," logic you use in every single post you've ever made doesn't really apply here.

Good try though. Well, not really.

Huzzah for the Chimp in Chief!

edit: my real opinion is that they all ****ed up (local, state, federal). Chimpy played his part, but it's not really all on him.

In some decades, you'll thank Shrub for giving you experience that will be useful when dealing with rising seas as West Antarctica melts.
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

                    Exactly!

                    By the way:
The story, from AP. I cannot find the actual video or a transcript of it. A video showing a briefing Bush had over video link the day before Katrina hit shows that he was warned of many of the things that did in fact occur before they happened. There is also clear evidence of him lying about...
I no longer use this account.

You guys really need to cut Bush some slack. New Orleans, as a city, added nothing to America other than a place for sin and iniquity during the weekend before Ash Wednesday, as well as plaguing us with that Something Awful website.

God struck New Orleans as a message to all those Gays, Gomorrans, and Saddamites, and it'd be silly to think that Bush, who talks with God regularly, wasn't let in on this plan.

The largest crimes at all levels of government occurred long before the hurricane even formed. The seeming fatalism about a below sea level city which is also next to a large lake and North America's largest river and not far from the ocean in a region which sees hurricanes quite regularly doomed N.O.

No, the dames and urbanization of the swamp land doomed N.O.. The dames stopped the process of bring fresh sediments while the urbanization removed the swamps which acted as a buffer between the city and the sea.
