Best of all, these launch systems are 10 times safer than the shuttle because of an escape rocket on top of the capsule that can quickly blast the crew away if launch problems develop. There's also little chance of damage from launch vehicle debris, since the capsule sits on top of the rocket.
how do you figure? even with one of these on challenger, nobody survives. with one of these on columbia, its probably 50/50. (how instantaneous is it anyways when theres a hole in the wing?)

Why? In Challenger's case, if there had been an escape rocket they might have survived. I remember a documentary stating that the crew probably survived the initial blast. If the escape capsule can be fired remotely from the ground or if the crew can trigger it themselves if they're concious...
Fly me to the moon
And let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words hold my hand
In other words darling kiss me
Fill my life with song
And let me sing forevermore
You are all I hope for
All I worship and adore
In other words please be true
In other words I love you
I've allways wanted to play "Russ Meyer's Civilization"
Heck, maybe all that prize money **** will work. How about a billion bucks, plus wages to all crew to construct a 500 person base there? This comes up to pennies, really, if we look at the budgets of the superpowers...
I think there's even chance that NASA won't be the next organization to land on the moon.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
