It depends on what her tries were like.

If she really tried, and still couldn't pass, then she should have been listed as learning disabled (and then would have passed).

      As well it should.

Listen, if I'm hiring people to work at my hypothetical warehouse, both of whom have basic HS diplomas, but only one of whom can do some simple algebraic operations which would make him a lot more useful when it comes to keeping track of inventory and warning me when it gets low, don't you think I deserve to be able to spot the difference based on some sort of certificate?

It has meaning for some employers.

Lack of even a basic diploma indicates a quiter, or someone with other serious problems.

The end result is a lot more closed doors.

Math is important to me. I ask applicants what their HS grade was because I know that simply passing isn't good enough.

Yes it will, and you can get a degree with zero math classes.

Allowing the standards to creep downwards because we don't want to hurt any single individual is exactly what got us to where we're at currently.

I think that it is possible to allow people the benefit of the education system without requiring algebra.

You can prepare someone for trades without requiring acedemic track studies.

If someone is to stupid to understand something as simple as algebra then they should be sterilized for the good of the species.

I think that would be a great idea. But the idea of a trades track put people off, and now everybody gets the same damn diploma. If they get the same diploma they should be held to the same standards. Otherwise the diploma is truly meaningless.

Last I heard, we had matriculation, basic diplomas, and a trades track (totally different schools with more classes oriented towards trades).

                            I don't know about CA.

Then is this girl in the trades track or the diploma program?

If she's in the diploma program, then why the hell shouldn't she learn algebra?

Oh, and as far as QC goes, that's not true.

HS is pretty uniform. CEGYP is where things diverge.
