When Bonds came back last year, he wasn't pitched around much more than usual. And, of course, most pitchers realize that statistically speaking walking Bonds every at bat is worse than pitching to him.

I think there are enough pitchers in the national league that view bonds as a plague, and with out a whole lot of protection in that lineup it would be easy to pitch around bonds. The fact that he's closing in on arguably one of the greatest records in all sports, i'm sure pitchers don't want to be the one to give up that homerun. My hope is that David Wells gets to face bonds before Ruth's record is broken, because i'm sure Wells would try to end his season.

I'm pretty sure Well's career is about finished anyway, but my point was that Well's is as big a babe ruth fan as there is and with the talk of him getting traded to the Padres, theres a good chance for the two to meet up.
