    Norge
Then you have to agree that the quality of the medals is as important as the total number of medals (Gold > Silver > Bronze)

    So,

    Germany: 4G + 1S + 2B = 16 pts
    Norge: 1G + 5S + 5B = 18 pts
    USA: 5G + 2S = 19 pts
    Russia: 4G + 3S + 2B = 20 pts.
    --------------
    Gold=3pts, Silver=2pts, Bronze=1pts.

The rest have less than 10 pts. So we have more points than everyone else.

      • No, a weighted medal count like that compared to country population is the best measure. Like the grand comparison I posted after the 2004 Summer Olympics.

It's not quite fair, since large countries like China can't really send that many competitors.

                • Well, Norge is not going to do very well in these Olympics. Lots of skiers are sick with diarrhea and/or injured. Like the entire Nordic comined team.

At least we beat Sweden in curling today

                  • Yep, diarrhea and injury is always good when you suddenly realise you have no chance of getting certain substances out of your system in time for competition. I'd like to see every athlete making such claims tested on the spot, whether they're going to compete or not. Regular consequences to ensue if they fail.

Harsh, yes. But closer to the truth than most people would like to admit. Which is the biggest part of the problem as I see it.

I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. • Gange, they aren't sick. They play it like that, because they found out the testings there, that they actually CAN find out some drugs they thought they'd be able to use to hide EPO and other things they take... then, like one day prior to their big challenge their coach comes and says 'wow guys, you have to sit this one down, I head from cancer man that they actually do see our special drug... dman it!'

And they all became sick, at the same time.

Russian biathlete suspended in first Olympic doping case
                                Associated Press

Cesana, Italy — Russian biathlete Olga Pyleva was suspended Thursday for failing a doping test, becoming the first athlete to test positive at the Olympics.

Pyleva, who won silver in the 15-kilometre event Monday, was scratched from the field before the start of the 7.5km sprint, in which she was considered a leading medal contender. She also won gold and bronze medals at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.

"The IOC has provisionally suspended the athlete for a disciplinary issue," International Olympic Committee spokeswoman Giselle Davies said Thursday.

An IOC panel will be convened to hear Pyleva's case. If found guilty, she would be thrown out of the games.

Pyleva won silver in the 15km Monday ahead of Germany's Martina Glagow. Albina Akhatova, Pyleva's Russian teammate, was fourth.

The IOC has conducted 380 tests since the athletes' village opened Jan. 31; Pyleva is the first to be caught by the IOC's most rigorous doping control program ever at a Winter Olympics. A total of 1,200 samples are being tested, a 72 percent increase over the number in Salt Lake City, where there were seven doping cases.

A Brazilian bobsledder who tested positive for steroids in a pre-Olympic drug test was the first athlete sent home from the Turin Games for doping. Armando dos Santos, a former hammer thrower, failed the test in early January when a sample showed evidence of the steroid nandrolone.

A dozen cross-country skiers, including Sean Crooks of Thunder Bay, Ont., were suspended five days for elevated hemoglobin, considered health checks — though they can also indicate possible blood doping. Seven of those have since been retested and cleared to compete; one failed a retest, and the other four had not yet been cleared.
