    From the IE developer blog:
    In IE7, we will fix as many of the worst bugs that web developers hit as we can, and we will add the critical most-requested features from the standards as well. Though you won’t see (most of) these until Beta 2, we have already fixed the following bugs from PositionIsEverything and Quirksmode:

    * Peekaboo bug
    * Guillotine bug
    * Duplicate Character bug
    * Border Chaos
    * No Scroll bug
    * 3 Pixel Text Jog
    * Magic Creeping Text bug
    * Bottom Margin bug on Hover
    * Losing the ability to highlight text under the top border
    * IE/Win Line-height bug
    * Double Float Margin Bug
    * Quirky Percentages in IE
    * Duplicate indent
    * Moving viewport scrollbar outside HTML borders
    * 1 px border style
    * Disappearing List-background
    * Fix width:auto

    In addition we’ve added support for the following

    * HTML 4.01 ABBR tag
    * Improved (though not yet perfect) < object > fallback
    * CSS 2.1 Selector support (child, adjacent, attribute, first-child etc.)
    * CSS 2.1 Fixed positioning
    * Alpha channel in PNG images
    * Fix :hover on all elements
    * Background-attachment: fixed on all elements not just body

    I want to be clear that our intent is to build a platform that fully complies with the appropriate web standards, in particular CSS 2 ( 2.1, once it’s been Recommended). I think we will make a lot of progress against that in IE7 through our goal of removing the worst painful bugs that make our platform difficult to use for web developers.

      Thanks.

      That sounds like a good start.

      Except you might want to fix your post there.

        Mercator: have you read this article on PIE?

        There's also this:

        People have wondered whether retaining a working Holly hack might wreak havoc in an IE7 that has fixed the Expanding Box Problem. The Holly hack employs a very small height to trigger layout, and it relies on IE/Win not respecting the small height, but instead increasing the height to contain all content.

        If IE7 did suddenly start respecting that small height, massive breakage would occur. In that case there would be no choice but to kill the Star-HTML hack, or suffer the unthinkable. Luckily we don't have to worry about this, because there are said to be no plans to correct the Expanding Box Problem in this version release. Whew!

        Did we really just say that?

            Yes. It says Microsoft has decided to fix some rendering bugs and not others, causing some major havoc with website designers.

            Just like what they did when they upgrade from IE5 to IE6.

              They can't fix them all at once...

              Firefox still has rendering bugs, and 1.0 incorrectly rendered major sites like ESPN and Slashdot until 1.5 came out. Where was your b*tching and moaning then?

              It's clear your interest is not users or webdesigners, it's against Microsoft. You're a fanboy, and your words are meaningless. If you're going for a crusade against Microsoft for unfixed bugs, do the same to Firefox which has some rendering bugs open still since 1998.

                  Ah... the <object> tag in your post, Asher, doesn't screw things up in Firefox. It just disappears there. In IE and Opera, however it screws up the page layout. So I suppose everyone *else* in this thread uses Firefox then?

                  Haven't read either of them, I don't usually read any of that. But it would seem pretty obvious to me that the best way to fix rendering bugs would be to limit it to strict mode. And knowing how Microsoft is concerned with backwards-compatibility I was sure that's what they'd do.

                    Yep... in IE the thread is screwed up by one of Asher's post.

                      Sorry, should be fixed now.

                      Just another case where IE adheres to standards and Firefox did not, but UR doesn't appear to be concerned with that.

                            Somewhat, but not enough to my liking. I was hoping for complete (and correct) CSS2.1 implimentation and maybe a little CSS 3 (like say, rounded corners). Alas, 'tis not to be. Hopefully it gives us the ability to style select boxes and not autmoatically make the damn things top level.
