    Oh, give it up.

Apple is not the first person to do either of those -- MS showed the Expose-like features many years ago as part of MSR's 3D desktop experiment.

It's a good move for Microsoft to make changes in reaction to features people liked it competitor's products. This competition is what makes the market move forward.

Microsoft makes changes that users want, regardless of their origins. Apple, on the other hand, just has to be different, even when it's at the detriment to user functionality (ie: the Finder, the Dock, the lack of access control lists, etc).

I don't recall you and your ilk getting upset with Safari for ripping off Opera and Firefox. Suddenly Microsoft is "stealing" when they implement a similar design.

Similar story with Core Image being a ripoff of Direct3D, or the Fast User Switching being a ripoff of Windows XP, or the multiple-button mouse being a ripoff from the PC, etc.

Im using it in paralell with Firefox atm (because Live Mail isn't fully compatible with Firefox yet), but I doubt I'll switch simply due to my 50-odd extensions which I can't imagine browsing without.

First bug found for Internet Explorer Beta 2

An independent researcher needed just 15 minutes to find the first bug in the Beta 2 preview release of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 browser.

Tom Ferris, of Mission Viejo, California, published his findings Tuesday just hours after Microsoft released the beta code. His findings are posted at http://www.security-protocols.com/ad...-advisory.txt. Ferris discovered the bug, which causes Internet Explorer (IE) to crash when it tries to read a specially crafted HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) file, using an automated security testing tool, called a "fuzzer" that he wrote to test Microsoft's browsers.

"Whenever they patch, I normally run IE through the fuzzing iterations, just to see if there [is something new]," he said. Ferris posted his findings at 8:30 p.m. Pacific time on Tuesday, the same day IE Beta 2 was released, he said.

Right now the bug can be exploited only to crash the browser, but Ferris says it's likely that his attack could eventually be modified to run unauthorized code on a user's machine.
I know this is a beta version, but this sort of thing does not exactly inpire confidence.

Except when it is the OS market?

            It's a frickin' beta. Christ.

There are data loss bugs in Firefox still not addressed after being made public for 4 years, I don't see how you can ignore that and pick apart Microsoft betas for having bugs.

I might add that the last line of that article is total BS. FUD, if you will.

Reminds me of the kind of propaganda they get in China.

Back up your claim for once -- since when was adopting more standardized interfaces across operating systems a bad thing?

I used IE7 Beta 2 for about 30 minutes. I can't get passed the awful UI.

I like my menu bar on top (with my Links menu right next to it for easy access to my sites), a single row of icons and the adressbar.

I am glad you can turn off tabs though. That's the only thing my keeps me from using FF. I used tabs once, meant to minimize the windows and end up pressing close. I was p*ssed.

Besides, I switch between windows explorer and the internet too much and having the same UI really makes things easier for me.

You can turn of tabs in FF if you know how.

I asked once at their offical forums, and I got chastised for not liking tabs.

Oh well, I like my UI setup, and that's more important to me. I security conscience enough to know what not to do on the net. That's why I don't bother with a firewall (thank God for NAT routers). I only got a virus twice and both times avast! stopped it before it went any further.

Have they improved (X)HTML/CSS rendering too? Or is this nothing more than a UI face-lift?
