Hockey was fine in the 80's without an abundance of them, why introduce all these newfangled inventions?
Because we are in the 21st Century and don't have to suffer bad calls of goals (or non-goals) if we don't want to.

there are some things in sports which should never be modernized. You can put as many sensors in the puck as you want, but leave it to the goal judge to decide if its a goal or not.

Backman skates backwards into Reinpreceht who is trying to stay onside -- IN OT -- and Reinpreceht gets an interference call.

I know it's happened before, but save me searching the old threads: What happens when a goalie comes in for a partial game? (e.g. Legace played the third and let in 1 goal on 6 shots.)

depending how long... if it's the entire period and he let in only 1 goal... it's averaged out for the whole game... i.e. around 3 GAA
The top two stories:
#1) Adrian Aucoin suffered a dislocated right shoulder in Sunday’s game against the Calgary Flames and is expected to be out from 4 to 6 weeks.
#2) St. Louis Blues forward Jamal Mayers was placed on injured reserve Tuesday and will be sidelined six to eight weeks after breaking his foot in a victory over Calgary on Monday.
heh heh.

Now that Anaheim has announced its name change for next season - the Ducks will no longer be Mighty- I say, why stop there?
I would like to give the NHL a real facelift, by eliminating all the names that don't end in s; by giving back names that moved, illogically, with franchises; and by making corrections, political in some cases.
It might go something like this - no more Avalanche, Lightning or Wild.
Colorado can be the Avs, Tampa can officially change to lightning Bolts, and Minnesota should reclaim (North) Stars from Dallas, just as Flames should be returned to Atlanta.
That would require new names for Calgary and Dallas.
Reflecting the change in government, Calgary would become the Canadians - spelled differently, with an a-n-s - Montreal would be allowed to change to Les Habitants, or Habs, and the political theme should give birth in the U.S. to the Dallas Republicans.
As for political correctness, Chicago would have to change Blackhawks, or switch to a helicopter for a logo.
The Maple Leafs would, at long last, become the Leaves - or perhaps I should leave Toronto alone.
Nashville would be encouraged to try something easier to say than Perdeters - Pred-da-tors.
There's also an issue with the Penguins. The team might not stay in Pittsburgh, but the name can't be allowed to leave - Winnipeg Penguins?
Winnipenguins?
No.
Our thanks to Brian Burke and the Samueli family for all of this, but did they go far enough? They're stuck with the Ducks. It's as if Philadelphia Flyers' forward Branko Radivojevic decided to change his name...to Bill.
For TSN.ca, I'm Dave Hodge.
