  • Martz will also act as QB coach. The Lions just became a lot more dangerous.

I think you're being too pessimistic about it. It's already subsiding, and the controversial calls were mostly correct upon further review; even Chris Collinworth (no love for the Steelers) has said the only wrong call was the low block on Hasselbeck (on Inside the NFL). The instant historians are already losing interest. Give it 10 years.

And in 10 years, you'll see the lasting legacy being the officiating. There has been enough hubbub, especially right after the game, that football historians will say that was as big as anything else in the aftermath of the game.

And Collinsworth shouldn't be used as backing for any argument.

            • I liked the game because it had a fairytale ending for Bettis (call me a sentimentalist), and I can say the Bengals lost to the Superbowl champs...

As opposed to the team that lost to the team that lost to the team that won, eh Sava?

The entire Inside the NFL crew was in agreement. I singled out Collinsworth because he usually goes against the Steelers. It's pointless to keep arguing back and forth about what happens in 10 years. I think you're wrong about it, as the calls weren't nearly as bad as first thought. You think I'm wrong, as the hype after the game is against me. (However, you also think that the Raiders offense was other than atrocious in Super Bowl 37... 250 total yards and five interceptions... nice.) All I know is that you're the most intractable person with whom I've discussed this. Even the Seahawks fans agree that the "hold" was not a "phantom hold" as was intially asserted after the game. We'll just have to agree to disagree about it... we'll talk about it again in 10 years.

Because 10 years from now, neither of you will be changing.

Oh, and a note to Guynemer -- I didn't say the Lions would be BETTER. But Martz will make them more dangerous, because he actually understands how to get production out of the skill positions.

Nahhhh... in ten years (probably less) the lasting legacy will be a wonderfully narriated and super slick documentary from NFL Films highlighting the Pitt victory and Bus's last game.

It will include 32 different angles of the "gadget play", many views of Bus running the ball and cheering on the sidelines... And a bunch of shots of Cower as they talk about how he finally got a Super Bowl.

Pretty much what they do for every Super Bowl

I got so annoyed at the officiating that the thought ran through my mind "Is this game fixed?" and I actually switched it off early in the fourth quarter. That's the first time I've ever done that to a SuperBowl.

If there were others like me, the advertisers should be seriously concerned about this.

Considering it was one of the highest watched Super Bowls in years, the Advertisers were thrilled

The Raiders RE-HIRE Art Shell! Mostly because no one else wanted the job!

                            • I hope Shell does well. He was 56-41, a winning coach, but no one hired him again till now because he was black. How many white retread losers have been hired in the 12 yrs that he was out?

Frankly I think this is a total red herring. How many coach hires have we had in the last 5 years who were black? None of them even seriously considered Shell. Are you telling me Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, etc failed to consider Shell because he was black?! Don't think so.

Probably the main reason is that Shell got a reputation as a coach who was hard to work with and would thrown a GM under the bus. That's the same reason why Ted Nolan hasn't gotten an NHL job since butting heads with the Buffalo Sabers front office (notably John Muckler).
