  • My commerical ranking:

    1) Ameriquest (1st better than the 2nd, but both great)
    2) Budweiser Horses ("streaker" and the baby horse)
    3) FedEx Caveman
    4) Mastercard McGuyver
    5) Magic Fridge

    • Wouldn't it be better for all if they ran the commercials for the entire duration, except for some much anticipated short breaks of top notch football, which everyone would then talk about and give grades to the next day?

      Comment

      • No you heathen . I watch for the football and the commerical are just amusing breaks in the action.

Besides, that way how could they charge $2.5 million+ per commerical?

              • I hate Hummers, but had to LOVE the Hummer Movie Monsters Spot.

I also thought the MacGyver - MasterCard spot was brilliant.

Ameriquest Mortgage "that killed him" spot -- very good.

Magic Fridge -- excellent, esp. compared to the other Bud Light spots.

Diet Pepsi spots -- both sucked.

Fedex "caveman gets fired" -- tired idea, poorly done.

Burger King Busby Berkeley musical number -- I applaud the big production effort. Now let's hope that it was a "Super Bowl Only" spot.

                  • I think Bud getting 7 of the top 11 places just crazy.

I liked the under rated MasterCard MacGyver and Nationwide Insurance Life Fabio spots.

But overall... a poor showing by the ad community this year. Nothing really stood out. A few were worth a chuckle, but no award winners. Most people seemed to play it safe this year.

                    • I forgot about the Sierra Mist airport security spot with the fake beep-beep when the wand passes near the bottle. I busted a gut when the guard looks knowingly at the passenger and brandishes his latex glove.

Advertisers allegedly pledged to step away from raunchy frat-boy humor in the post-Janet Jackson era. I find it amusing (and sad) that the most sophomoric spots (read: Bud Light) tended to be the most popular.

Just shows how little creativity there is out there.

                      • My simple game recap

Seattle was the better team on all but 3 Pittsburgh big plays and had penalties simply kill any and all momentum. I believe 5 of their biggest plays were called back on penalties. I make no comment on how deserved the penalties were but it just struck me as being one-sided in the result.

Seattle also showed lousy clock managment skills-- I mean SCREEN PASSES ??? stupid to throw them and in the circumstances it would be better for the receiver to drop them.

So overall the geme reminded me of a hockey game where one team gets 40 shots on net, gets one goal and hits the post 3 times while the other team gets 12 shots on net but scores 3 times when their opponent has TWO men in the penalty box
You don't get to 300 losses without being a pretty exceptional goaltender.-- Ben Kenobi speaking of Roberto Luongo

                        • I think the refs determined that game and not the teams

                          that's a real shame

still, even if Seattle got some calls going their way I think they didn't play well, and was disappointed with their play calling. the result probably wouldn't of been any different. they really played to the Steeler's strenghts.

                          so,

                          bad refs, bad seahwaks

I did like Randel El's TD pass

                            • Seattle could not manage the clock at all; some of the calls they got hosed on, but they definitely did not deserve to win.

And, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I thought the Stones were great. Not as good as U2 a few years ago, but they still tore it up. However, whenever I see sweet, grandfatherly Charlie Watts on the drums, all I can think is: "One of these things is not like the other, one of these things does not belong."

Ads? MacGuyver was terrific. I also really enjoyed the big Burger King production. The magic fridge was amusing. The Ameriquest and Nationwide ads were clever. If I never see another Diet Pepsi ad for the rest of my life, I might die a happy man. And I absolutely loved the new Emerald Nuts ad. The movie trailers that got me interested were 16 Blocks, V For Vendetta, and Pirates 2.

                              • I can finally post in this thread again!

Because I didn't take today off work then I've had to watch the lot on video this evening. It wasn't a great game - Alexander was particularly disappointing, but the 75 yard rush was wonderful, and I thought that Heinz Ward also played really well.
I'm glad that the Steelers won, if only because I hate them slightly less than the Seahawks, but what the hell were the officials playing at? There were so many atrocious calls it was mindboggling.
Oh, and I FF'd through the half-time show.
I thought it was unlikely they'd play Paint it Black so I didn't bother watching.
