    This is *not* a babe thread. I merely offer these pictures for clarification (and because Mao demands it).

              Honestly, I'm somewhat perturbed by the whole "yellow fever" thing.

              Not because I find anything wrong, exactly, about finding Asian women attractive (I fall into that category myself), but more for the social and political subtexts that often crop up.

              That said, I'm not quite rabid about that--I'm willing to give most the benefit of doubt.

              Oh, and my vote is for Asians. Funny, that. Who'da thunk it? (That said, it's not like I find Latinas unattractive--any ethnicity can be physically attractive, but in this case I'm casting my vote for those whose ethnicities more closely match mine, both out of what may be a biological and psychological in-built bias, and perhaps slightly out of a buried and unformed political thought.)

                What sort of subtexts are you referring to? I'd like to know if you're referring to the stereotype that asian women are docile sex machines....

                And Latin fever is just as strong among some people. It's also interesting that Latin fever extends to the "Iberian" look, but not the indigenous look. Some food for thought...

                  Yes, that's kinda the subtext that I've run across. Dragon Ladies or Submissive Flowers, unhindered by "traditional"/"Christian" inhibitions, and the like. That, and the somewhat related extension/subtext that Asian males are emasculated, effete, impotent, and so on.

                  The problem is that it suggests to me, then, that they're not actually interested in the person, and more their fantasy of the person. Instead of falling for someone, colorlessly, without regard to ethnicity... well, in the end, that's all they see.

                  Like I said, I'm willing to give everyone the benefit of doubt, though I've run into a few people who do ring the alarm bells, or come perilously close. (For instance, one of my dear friends and roommates--a white bread guy so desperate for culture...)

                  ===

                  I've no doubt that there's a concurring Latin fever. The problem is when those ethnic stereotypes overwhelm the person's actual identity.

                    I don't think that its that big of a problem. Most guys drool over fully Americanized Asian girls as much as culturally Asian girls. The culture factor doesn't really come into play at all. Maybe that's just my personal experience.

                    BTW, Am I the only one who thinks that Indian girls can be quite hot?

                      Yellow fever is prevelent among a lot of guys looking for a quick score, but usually after the first one or two girls that these guys go through, it's usually out of their systems because the stereotypes are negated. I most see it in guys who've never actually dated an asian woman (as in off the boat, so to speak).

                      After a while the Yellow Fever stereotype disappears and is usually replaced by "national" stereotypes and biases that the women instill. I'm becoming somewhat guilty of that, hence my Korean joke earlier in the the thread . I think that proves that despite their timid reputation, Asian women usually win in the end

                      I think that American men drool more over foreign Asians for various reasons that I can articulate if someone wants to know. And Americanized Asian women and Caucasian men get stigmatized because Asian women are seen as easier to get and hold than Caucasian women. I've had some nasty remarks directed my way from ex's who found out I was dating one.

                      And young Indian girls can be quite hot, but they hit the wall at a younger age.

                          I have a freind who definitely has a thing about asians.. he ended up bothering some nice people (and he was an alright guy for me to hang out with, but then I am not an asian girl and hung out with him before I knew any asian girls (which was when I enjoyed hanging out with him)).
