Doesn't the second line redeem me in some small way?

Perhaps I'm just not an "insider," whatever that means.

As for the tape, I suspect this will be a PR windfall for Bush, actually. OBL didn't say anything critical that hasn't been said already, only now it's coming from the mouth of a terrorist. It's also full of insults.

But the voice on the tape, which appeared to be aimed at the American public, also offered a truce: "We do not mind establishing a long-term truce between us and you."

Question is, do they benefit by proving that Bin Laden is alive and healthy or do they not? I mean, i'm pretty sure they somehow could provide a video recording or pictures to definitely prove it if they really wanted. But maybe they want to make him some sort of legend, who no one knows much about, so even if he would die his influence and power as an icon could be used by others.

Is GWB going to write this into his State of the Union Address somehow?

"it prevents wasting of billions of dollars ..."

Does anyone else think it's ironic that even Osama Bin Laden is concerned about US government spending??

It's nice to know that Osama is so concerned over american taxpayers.

Typically terrorist groups offer truces when they are getting their asses kicked. That's what Hamas and other Palestinian groups have done in Israel and they've always used the truce time to rebuild their forces to make themselves stronger. We should never give them a truce and instead just keep killing them one at a time.

Also I wonder if tecumesh or what ever his name is will appaligize for his hysterical whining thread about the bombing in Pakistan now that it has been proven that 4 Al Qaeda men were killed. That whiny little bastard has been wrong in just about every thread I've ever seen him post in.

Real bad idea. They're only offering a truce because they're getting their top guys killed and they want a chance to rebuild. When the Israelis have agreed to truces the terrorists have always used the breathing space to kill more Israelis. Instead we need to keep the pressure on and keep killing or capturing their people. It's a slow process of wearing them down and that's what needs to happen.

No, not really. He's in Pakistan so the US can't openly go after him there. Recently we've seen a willingness of the Pakistani government to let the US bomb terrorist targets there and even to let US special ops go into Pakistan to kill terrorist members. The Pakistani government can't admit to it openly since their people would become openly hostile to such a policy but that's what's happening and just this week four Al Qaeda members (including their #2's son, his main helper, and several of his training and money men) where killed in Pakistan. Typically the big whigs in terror groups don't mind their soldiers dying but hate it when they or their close friends get killed.

They're feeling the pressure and they're trying to get some breathing room. We shouldn't give that to them. We'll be safer if we keep them running and unable to properly plan and communicate with their followers.

Not looking at the Qutbist ideology, how far back does his aggression go, and why?
And the fact that the US wasn't allowing Israel to be destroyed/ was helping Israel. Let's also not forget that OML has said that Jihad most continue until all nonmuslims are either dead or converted. He also previously mentioned the Arab/Islamic truce with the Eastern Roman Empire and nonIslamic Persia so that the two could fight each other. He said that it was strategically best for the Arabs to gather their strength for future attacks while the nonIslamic states continued fighting.

Likely, this is similiar thinking. He wants to rebuild his network for future attacks and doesn't want an honest end to his jihad there for why give him what he wants? We are no worse off yet he likely is if things continue as they are. Clearly, OBL thinks he needs time to regroup and we shouldn't give him what he needs/wants.

Yes. As I and others have said this tactic is right out of the Koran. We shouldn't buy into it.
