me? I'm not even in troll form right now. I was hoping Sava and Eyes would go at it, but he bowed out early. so much for the fun.

Eyes is pretty much right, except his assessment of Mississippi vs New Orleans. As New Orleans has very specific problems Mississippi does not have. Namely being below sea level and being dependand on levees and pumps to keep them dry.

I find it incredible that so many people think there's only enough blame to cover either local/state officials or federal officials.

Personally, I think there's enough to bury all of them.

certainly. I'm not letting the feds off easy. It's obvious Brown was not qualified for the job. And Bush was the idiot who appointed him. But it wasn't really their job to do anything until after the storm hit.

I place the blame for all the actions before the storm on Nagin and the governor. And all the actions after the storm on Brown.

The feds cant do sh*t without the guv asking them. FEMA is a disaster but the city and state officials siphoned money away from the levy system for years and didnt do squat when it mattered. Trying to spread the blame around to criticise the Bushies on this issue is just partisan BS. "Brownie" was right, the pols on the ground were incompetent and "dysfunctional", not that FEMA helped much if at all when it arrived. According to David Brinkley, Nagin holed himself up in some big hotel as the city flooded.

White chocolate is good, although I prefer dark chocolate.

                      isnt chocolate naturally white?

Btw, I believe Spanish nuns in Mexico either invented chocolate or at least introduced it to Europe and they became so "addicted" the Church banned chocolate.

The Aztecs invented it AFAIK. It was the drink of the gods (i.e. only the emperor could drink it). Ghana is a major producer now but I believe the plants were imported in the colonial era.

Maybe, but they still handled evacuations properly. There's been entire shows about worst case scenarios in NO. They knew the levees were going to break and they knew about all the flood zones. They had plenty of time to evacuate properly and if that had been Florida you would have seen an evacuation on a massive scale. Those people never should have been there in the first place. FEMA made mistakes, but they were trying to deal with an impossible situation. There was just no excuse not to evacuate all those people when they knew what was going to happen.

None of the layers of government distinguished themselves w/regard to Katrina. Given the "worst case scenario" of a Cat3/4+ hit on N.O. was WELL KNOWN, I'm astounded at the lack of foresight and planning (on all levels).
