It's so cute how Ming thinks Illinois corruption in anyway compares to Southern corruption. The only Northern state that could make a Southern politician blush is New Jersey.

I do know what Chicago corruption is like, my landlord having brought my laderwoman (Vilma Colon) to my apartment to get use to vote for her and my buddy getting jumped by Daley's thugs when campaigning for someone who wasn't part of the machine. My grandfather was also given his job as head of the Cook County Library simply because he attended the same downtown church as Daley Sr.

              Florida is much, much worse.

It's so cute how some people want to ignore Democratic corruption in Chicao... yet pound on the Republicans.

Chicago corruption is famous, and they teach classes on it at major universities...

I'm not saying the corruption is good, or that either party is right for doing so... but Chicago corruption and vote fraud is legondary, and has been for years. Who do you thinik the southern politicans learned from

I'm from New Jersey... Illinois corruption is just as bad. Hell, as Ming said, it's class material at major universities.

What did Murtha have to back pedal from or any of the other democrats that have criticized this administration? They tell the truth, then they get lambasted by the press and the administration's attack dogs and then they back pedal and apologize.
Murtha said we should start redeploying outside the region as soon as practicable and the GOP turned that into pulling out now. That isn't back pedaling, its defending one's argument against a smear machine that is giving me an idea what it was like in the McCarthy era.

You are correct. Murtha didn't back-pedal.

                        12/23/2005

“When I was in Iraq three months ago, they mentioned they probably wouldn’t replace two brigades in January or February, which would reduce the number of brigades from 18 to 16. That’s not what I have in mind. Our logistic convoys remain vulnerable and the U.S. troops remain the targets. Our presence in Iraq continues to unify the insurgents against the U.S. forces. We have to give the Iraqis a timetable to take charge of their own destiny.”

                        11/17/2005

                        My plan calls:

To immediately redeploy U.S. troops consistent with the safety of U.S. forces.
To create a quick reaction force in the region.
To create an over- the- horizon presence of Marines.
To diplomatically pursue security and stability in Iraq

This war needs to be personalized. As I said before I have visited with the severely wounded of this war. They are suffering.

                        * * * * *

This is slightly off of my point, but you were right to point it out. Although Murtha didn't back pedal, the question was will Gore and Hillary back pedal or will they stand by their comments?
"In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed. But they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love. They had 500 years of democracy and peace. And what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Just watched the video of Gore's speech on C-SPAN.org. He certainly paints a bleak picture of the state government in the USA.

                          Good speech, IMO.

It usually is a good speech for Europeans when they think there is something wrong with America. Can't say I blame you though, I'd look for esteem boosters too if I lived in europe.

Probably because the corruption is in Chicago. People here are complaining about the corruption that affects the whole frickin' country.

What I want to know is: Why is it when republicans are caught doing something illegal they do one of three things?

                                1. Attack the accuser personally
                                2. Say that democrats do the same things, ignoring the differences in the scale and acts themselves
                                3. Claiming that any criticism of republican policies aides the "enemy"

None of these responses address the issue of corruption and illegal activity, yet I hear them from republicans over and over and over again.
