You think the Yank generals didn't want to send in the special forces to come back with the body of the guy who planned those attacks on the US? You think State didn't ***** slap them and say, 'no'?

Especially if those bodies are those of kids? I don't see how it's any less detrimental to Pakistani sovereignty if we're killing people from ground level instead of 10 000 meters up.

I think that we've gotten to the point where we're so afraid to risk our soldiers' lives that we take easy ways out, which often come back to bite us. This is a collective Western "we". More true of Canada and the US. Less true of France and the UK.

Soldiers die. Often they die in places where their enemies do not respect the laws of war. I honour them for their bravery and their willingness to do jobs we tell them have to be done.

The impotence we all to often display for fear that one of ours might show up on TV dead and bloodied does far greater harm than the actual corpses.

The air force didn't earn its pay (or might not have, depending). They killed kids and some pawns. Looks like they missed the enemy queen.

I think that taking out that queen is well worth risking a dozen dead Canadian soldiers.

Now, if Germany, Britain, Italy, and others want a full on ground war in Asia, let's invade the NWPs of Pakistan to root out the Taliban.

Just don't be surprised if China and Russia have something to say about it. I'd be willing to go mushroom over it, seeing as NATO is fulfilling an obligation to a conquered nation, and we are protecting ourselves and the people of Afghanistan, but are you?

The Yanks are paying the majority of the freight. They get the call given it is their citizens you want to commit to engagement in a tribal area filled with guns.

Wouldn't be worth it. Why do you insist on there being only two possibilities (airstrikes and the full invasion of large sections of Pakistan)? JTF2, Delta Force et al exist for a reason. They're our knives. Let's use them when we need a knife.
