I'm looking for a decent European bank to put my savings account I want to buy Euros and I want a decent rate of interest. I suppose European bonds will also do. We'll be socking away $300 a week, give or take, and Europe's return on investment over all is better than the U.S., and without that nasty debt cloud hanging over it, either.

In 2005, for the first time in our nation's history, we consumed more than we produced. I don't want to keep my savings in such a shaky environment.

My guess of what he means is that total value of what we produce (by manufacturing, creation of wealth with investment, the value of labor for service jobs, value added by consulting jobs, etc.) was smaller than the total value of what we consumed (material goods, services and consulting from foreign countries, etc.)

As with any economics, there's so many different variables and statistics to look at that you can make anything say anything. But chegitz isn't an irrational person, he probably has a thorough explanation behind this.

Chegitz if the USA economy collapses catastrophically what is to say you can get your European nest egg out of Europe and to you?

I think that what Che means, is that there was consumer expenditures exceeded incomes. Don't know if it's the first time and I didn't think the final figures for 2005 have been released yet.

Actually, it's everything: government, business, and consumer consumption exceeded our total production for the first time in our history. We've never done that before. Yes, our government has spent more than it takes in for quite some time, and our consumers have been spending more than they make, but business was always profitable enough to still put us in the positive.
