Munich settlement 1938? Annexion 1939? BLOODY WWII?
Why yes, what an excellent point!... because there have been no wars or annexations within the arab world after WWI either, right?

I'm getting tired at these red herrings people are throwing at me.

if borders, once dictated, are bound to tie nations into eternal conflicts, why aren't Germany and Czechia still at war? - VJ, history doofus
Look, kid, do you know what the word "still" means in English? You know, "currently" at war.

"BUT ZOMG, LOOK! CANADA AND USA HAD A WAR ABOUT ARTIFICIALLY DICTATED BORDERS IN 1812, TOO! SURELY THIS MEANS I SHOULD TRY TO RIDICULE EVERYONE WHO SAYS CANADA AND USA AREN'T STILL AT WAR!"

At VJ, well the uk made a speciality of persecuting the jews all through the middle ages. I think this has contributed to the current situ as much as doing the border thing.

We stink with our meddling in other peoples affairs - sorry! we are trying to mend our ways, by trying(not very well) to keep america from doing the samething all over again

VJ, if you want to complete the analogy between the ME and central Europe, you'd be calling for a great war.

What you're asking for is a new holocaust.

IT's time to get rid of the Germans once in for all, so I'm calling for new holocaust as well.

No wait.. Not the Germans... the French!

Is it coincidence that the EU battle group that we are in consists of us and Germans? And was it Belgians?

I'm sure. I'm not sure if Belgians were in it too. We can prepare the human smashers!

How big is such a battle group anyway? I should know, I'm in a seminar about stuff like this, but I dont't

I don't know how big our group will be, oh I checked, it's not Belgium, it's Netherlands, so after human smashing we can have a bit of nice weed.

I only know that the group consisted of us, Sweden, Norway and Estonia is 1500 man "strong". This would be the Nordic Group.

So I guess it's something along those lines.

Not very strong then, more along the lines of the 1988 German-French brigade (5,000 men).

Ooh, you've found a Difference between Central Europe and Middle East, what an accomplishment! Surely, this means that no analogy between ME and Central Europe is ever possible!

PS: Please throw more red herrings in the form of crappy historical comparisons, I'm hungry.

Look, I suspect you're either drunk or trolling, but my point was this: artificial borders may eventually directly lead to one border skirmish between different nations, but they are no excuse for the eternal state of warfare which has ruled Middle-East ever since "the imperialists" left the control of the states to the people who inhabited them.

Every European state west of Poland had developed a taste of persecuting jews by the 16th century. I didn't know UK was especially good at it.

I cant remember the saying exactly, but it goes something like "No worthy Lord would not have a jew inresidence of his dungeon" - something like that, it from an old english saying.

I think the jews, as historicaly displaced people(like gypsies these days) have had a history of suffering under others. Much of the world is to blame for this, and i've heard it argued this is very much part of the jewish physcological make-up(what ever that is).

As a 25% jew i'm not sure of that, but my feelings on having been to Isreal, is that there could be some merit in this to explain the in-capability of present day jews to live alongside the arabs.

I know we have a chicken and egg scenario with this(as in who threw the first stone to cause the current climate of fear), but it was sad for me to see a whole society geared up to kill another. There has to be a better way?
