        You're welcome

This thread is awesome. For me (and probably for amny other apolytoners), it is really a travel to a surprising and mysterious land. There's some magic that emanates from this thread.

Once it's closed, make sure to add the link to this thread in your sig, because it really really rocks

Thank You very much. I really appreciate it, because posting it all cost me much time and money
There is going to be Middle East Pictures 2 thread, because I still have a lot pics I haven't posted.

I could not photo the entire minaret, so You have its shadow instead - the important part is that it rests on 4 pillars, which is extraordinary

              • here is one of the churches in Diyarbakir. As in the rest of the region, most of christians were either slaughtered or fled it, but some remain. The church is very old, some parts are pre-christian, the church backs to III century or so.

                  • still the monastery. A funny thing was that there's a big sign that the entrance is free, both in Turkish and Arabic - just next to the place You have to buy tickets in.

                    • Dayr az-Zafran, a monastery next to Mardin city. It used to be the sit of syrian-orthodox (jacobite) patriarch until he fled it. It is very old of course, there are remains of magnificent byzantine decoration. Unfortunatelly, it is impossible to photo the dome unless You climb some mountain around it.

                              • according to tradition, when Abraham was ordered to be burned, the fire turned into a pool, the coal into fish, Abraham flew and landed on roses. Therefore, on this place, in a lovely park filled with roses there's a pool fool of fish
