Is there a "stop sucking so much" option for MS Word?

I miss Word Perfect. I miss the "reveal code" option.

You know what really bugs me in Word, though -- aside from everything else, I mean? The bloody half-menues. You know, where you click on, say, "Edit" and only half of the available options drop down, one of which is a downward double-arrow that reveals the other options?

On what freaking planet did anyone think this was necessary -- or even desireable?

You can turn those off, you know. Right-click on any menu bar, click "Customize" at the bottom, go to the options tab, and select "always show full menus".

        I didn't know that; thanks.

But I still think its a ridiculous feature.

I hate how my margins are always ****ed whenever I create, and especially modify, lists.

I hate how it always seems to want to revert back to Times New Roman.

I wish, when you have a 2,000-word document that is all, say, 12-point TNR font and you want to cut 'n paste a quote from a website, that Word would not keep the originals font and color, rather coordinating the damn thing to correspond to the rest of the document. At the very least, ask me if I want to keep the original font/color/background or conform it to the document.

You can do that by using "paste special" from the Edit menu instead of "paste" (or Ctrl-V), then selecting "unformatted text." I have to do this all the time when I'm sending reports to DC.

I wish people would stop using Times New Roman. It's an awful, ugly font.

Thank God Office 12 changes that so it's not the default.

You might want to consider using Powerpoint for things like that. It's a lot more powerful when it comes to figures, and should still be able to go to a PDF format (it's actually a format more similar to PDF natively, though I'm not sure what formats Acrobat is willing to accept). Make the whole page one huge textbox, or just have many textboxes as you need them ... whatever But it lets you put figures in wherever.

Oh, and ... hmm. Arial ... I'm actually something of a Courier New fan, and Palatino when i'm really feeling 'out there'.

Courier New is for code, Arial (size 12) or Verdana (size 10) for text.
