    Who's desperate for excuses?
Markkanen should be your starter, the reason he's not as good as he should be rests squarely on the shoulders of your inept coaching staff.

Markkanen should be the starter, Conklin the backup, and Morrison in the minors for a couple more years to develop. He will be good, just not so soon.

We beat them last season. I have a feeling we could do it again.
You could easily sweep them if your defence gets healthy and JT played OK.

They are nothing special, outside of a very good goalie and a (almost) never say die work ethic. The difference between them and Jersey of old would be the ability to put the puck in the net.

Jussi lets in too many laughers. He's not a clutch goaltender.

          Not a chance.

Calgary's defence -- which was not working tonight aside from Phaneuf and Regehr (we need Hamrlik back), is easily one of the top in the league, if not the top. Their speciality are one-line teams they can shut down with our best D. Montreal would have no chance.

It's more problematic with teams like the Oilers that have more than one line that can score.

He needs time and familiarity and confidence to make those saves. You can't go around shattering each of your goalie's confidence and then honestly be surprised when they're so tense that they miss some stupidly easy ones. The edmonton goalies must be terrified every time they hit the ice, one or two stupid mistakes and they're at the back of the depth chart. That takes an enormous toll on the psyche, and if MacTavish were a good coach he'd know that.

              Montreal has that too.

And they don't need the best defence or the greatest goalie to win against the Flames. What they have is more than up to the task.

Ottawa had the best of everything and fell.

Montreal is a lesser team than Ottawa in every aspect of its game.

MacT's problem is that he is expecting young goalies (there's that word again) to be Fuhrs, each and every one of them.

                      We're in luck boys.

Montreal is at Calgary Thursday, January 19th, 2006 @ 7pm MST.

Toronto is at Calgary on Friday, January 6th, 2006.

Ottawa would destroy Calgary in a seven game series.
I think we'll find out if that's true or not come May/June.

last time Montreal played Calgary, Montreal won.

Montreal ain't healthy right now. When it was healthy, it was arguably #2 in the east.

and cup winning teams come from the east

When did Calgary and Montreal play last season? Was it in the 1st or 2nd half? It was a completely different Calgary team in the 2nd half.

If i remember correctly, it was maybe February?

I think it was the same week as the herritage classic. I want that game on DVD, I was working that night

                              Yeah, 4-1 Montreal.

That was about 2 years ago, times have changed.

I really doubt it. Calgary isn't anywhere near good enough to make it out of the conference.

If you get a player or two in for offence, maybe, but the Flames as they are just don't have that spark that it takes to win.
