  • Only watched the 2nd half of Chelsea vs Barca. I thought that was a very impressive display of dominance by Barca between the 70th and 80th minute.

    • yeah, the shot a lot of balls left, right, high, and right into cech in that 10 minute span - but when youre up by a player at this level, you should be dominating. chelsea lost two players on that harash red card - del horno, a good defender, and cole, a good midfielder, who was substituted out for geremi.

so now you are down a man, and have less midfielders, which means less control of the ball, which means cant get it forward, which means more on the defensive, more being dominated, and less chances to ease the pressure.

subbing out crespo for drogba was a good countermove by jose. hes a lot bigger, doesnt need as much help as crespo (who is more of an end-of-an-attack player) and can play more independant. and it almost worked out, becaus ehe had a great chance just after coming in.

      • Well we failed to beat Charlton without Shearer and Dyer. Colour me stunned.

        • SWP? I don't understand him coming on.

Full marks to Barca though, they did what they had to do. The linesman should have helped the ref out with the sending off though...

Mourinho was leaving a quick player high up the field to make Barca worry about counter attacks so they couldn't just throw everyone forward. It was hard work and Robben knackered himself out so they brought on SWP to do the same thing.

Last year Chelsea were 2-1 down after a dodgy sending off in the first leg, unfortunately this year the second leg is away from home.

                        It's not over yet.

                        • Nothing dodgy about last year's sending.

This one was a close call, what pushed it over the edge was him making a foul two minutes earlier.
Not to mention that his thoughts weren't really on getting the ball but taking out the person, letting the kid know that dribbling is a nono sort of speak. (which on the continent is (always) a straight red, you just don't get away with things like you do in the PM every week).

                          • I said pretty much that on CG. I thought the foot up challenge was much worse, looked quite malicious but he didn't even give a free kick for that I don't think.

I can't believe you said last years wasn't controversial. That was a shocker. Drogba had every right to go for that ball, it was totally 50/50. It wasn't even a foul let alone a card.

                            • IIRC, he too made a couple of (bad looking) fools in the space of a couple of minutes.

To be fair to the ref, these things often looks worse than they are, especially in real time.
