yeah the movie can't be that realistic if it doesn't show a massive set of balls and a penis. And it better show an erect penis when he's with that woman. . Not that I want to see a giant ape penis, I just like my films to be realistic.

I forgot! The movie Syriana also looks promising.

Just saw King Kong, a great movie, seeing New York like that was awesome.

It didn't occur to me how well done King Kong was modelled until near the end of the movie.

The best part was the pit where all the insects, etc came out. The very slight tone of sound in the background was just right, it seemed like they were all about to die at that point.

Just saw King Kong. Pretty good movie. Its too long, though. The brontosaurus scene was way over the top. Jackson should have toned it down.

Yeah it was over the top, every single one of the men should be dead.

And Jimmy with the gun, firing at the wetas; this also made no sense.

                    Realistic?.
Gorillas have rather small penis, when hunters returned from Africa with them as trophys, they had them cut out, used the pretext that victorian women would be shocked, when in fact the shock was that the large burly Gorilla has a small set of goods.

Good film, not a LOTR but certainly worth the price of a ticket. Particulry liked the use of eyes by the School of rock actor, to convey thoughts and emotion.

Yes, that was one scene in particular that should have been cut down. The first half of the movie seemed more like Jurassic Park IV action scenes.

But I agree with the reviewers who said King Kong had more depth and emotion than most living actors/actresses. Definitely one I'll watch again.

I just saw the movie King Kong.

Here is my take on the three hour movie:

The first hour of the movie was well paced, showing to good effect New York City during the thirtys. Really immersed you in time and place and introduced all the characters.

The second hour places us on Skull Island. The ship sequences are all fine as were all the CGI effects. Kong and all the creatures on the island are very well done. In fact, the island itself was very well done: the rocks, jungle, vines, etc, etc

However, where I had a problem was in the abuse of CGI. It has already been pointed out about the Brontosaurus scene. Yup - waayyy over the top. In fact it was ludicrous, and partly ruined the immersion factor. It went on and on, and all I could do was groan.... It was just plain cartoony... How did Jackson/Walsh of LoTR fame allow that scene to remain in the movie?

In addition, I did not realize that a 25 foot, 20-ton gorilla could move with the grace and speed of a 150 pound Ninja acrobat. Some fight sequences were just unbelievable.

Plus, all that shaking by Kong of Fay Ray should have snapped her spinal chord on many an occasion.

I understand that WETA Workshop (of LoTR fame) did the CGI here as well. Jackson really needed to rein these guys in; get them to control themselves.

The last hour places Kong in New York. And this is where the movie truly shines. The sequence from the time Kong is on stage, to his climbing the Empire State Building, until the end, is something that is worth the price of the admission ticket. It really has to be seen on the big screen.

Some of the best moments involved just Fay Ray and Kong on the screen looking at each other. Kong is exceptionally well done.

Overall, I liked the movie. Except for a few sequences this could have been a great film. Personally, I expected a bit more subtlety from Jackson.

It is too bad that the movie wasn't more subtle. I just didn't get that feeling of awe and wonder when Kong appeared as I did with the dinos in Jurasic Park.

When, oh when, are movie makers going to rein in and control their use of CGI? Some big abusers of this were episodes 1 and 2 of the Star Wars movies...

CGI should be used sparingly and it should be there to enhance a film; CGI should not control the film...

I suspect that movies like Star Wars and King Kong are also meant as showcases for ILM and WETA. They show off their mad skillz in order to get clients.

                            No doubt.

However, sequences such as the Brontosaurus stampede tends to repel most people rather than draw them into the movie.

Some over-the-top CGI sequences in movies can just wear a person down, if you know what I mean.

I wonder if the problem could the fact that CGI is done on a 19-20" monitor. What looks good on that size screen could be too much when it is translated onto the mighty BIG theatre screens...

A BIG ape on a BIG screen tends to highlight every little movement.

Still, I enjoyed the film. I am sure that when I watch the movie on dvd on my TV many of these little problems won't be as noticable...

I hear that Jackson's next film is going to be about the ANZACs in WWI.

I sure wish he would do more sword and fantasy movies ala the LoTR. Man, he, along with Walsh, sure know how to do that right.

Besides the LoTR books are there any other good fantasy books worth reading? Something that has depth and interest?

Is the 1933 version of King Kong worth seeing?

And it stayed its hand from killing.
And from that day, it was as one dead."
