Fah, Ollie, there are plenty of things you can use your "sick days" for. One is spending time with your little girl, watching her get a new belt in karate

Sophie was thrilled that I was there that day... even her eyes smiled.

You know it's nap time when you quote yourself instead of editing.

              John

              Thats not exactly true

I am an area manager with over 40 people reporting to me

I attempt to get lots of work and keep my employees gainfully employed

we have a committment to the customer

we also have a committment to the employees

              Reverse the situation:

The employee shows up for work and I say go home

              the employee says why?

I say no reason just go

most times I would be paying partial unemployemnt if they drop down to I believe in North Carolina like 24.5 hours ( of course I could be a mean weinie & run them just at 26 hours or so then they have all the medical and such coming out and minimal take home..force them to quit..but that would not be right now would it?)

It costs a lot to offer benefits and better equipment and higher wages and compensation packages like 401K and vacation and holidays paid

What I am saying is when a person is employed with my company he is needed and is certainly not a luxury.

They perform a vital part of the operation.

              I am not heartless

I let people off for personal reasons

I also execuate termination for sub-standard performance such as unexcused absences

I allways get kinda miffed when I see or hear of an employee taking advantage of a situation..lieing or cheating to get persoanal gains

I love to see my employees off having fun at something they enjoy..hunting,fishing or in this case surfing

but not at a whims desire

schedule time off according to workload and personnel committment levels

              Of course

If its ok with his company then fine

but it would not fly continually with most companies

              eventually it will catch up

Since there is currently a shortage of geologists and I do a great job for them (or so my boss and my boss's boss tell me) it is highly likely I will be picked up at the end of 90 days and get a sizable raise since they will no longer have to pay the temp agency a cut of my fee. I am currently dating the women who works for the temp agency so I know that they get a 25%-30% cut of my gross wages. I currently get paid $20 per hour but the company I work for pays the temp agency is paid $29 (I know since my girl friend is the one who hired me) from the company. That means after 90 days I get hired on by the company and the temp agency disappears from the scene.

Likely I will get some of that $9 per hour and likely the company will keep some of it. I'm expecting at least an average of a $5 per hour raise (though I will be classified as a salaried and exempt employee which is why I don't feel bad about shorting them a day now). I also rent out two rooms in my house so I get a bit extra there. I'm not a rich man but I do well considering I'm just one guy without a family to support.
                Let me understand this:

Your girlfriend is your boss? (or got you hired) well if thats so then all rules out the window

                if not

do you think you are really marketing yourself for success in potential elevated pay scales?

I am just asking..seems more like your doing what you want and while you may/may not be qualified and they may/may not be shorthanded that most probably wont go on forever and then your work ethics will come into play and perhaps bite you

I am not saying you dont deserve a day off

Im not saying you dont have the right to have fun

What I am saying is the way you went about doing it

I have yet to take a day off at my job. I never get sick (knock on wood), and it also helps I do not get any paid time off or sick days. Basically, if I take off, I'm not paid for 8 hours.

I find it very disheartening when companies lay off employees in order to "save money". Employees don't cost the company money; they make the company money.

In 2003, I made an invention that was worth my salary x 10. I didn't even get a raise as a reward.

(So if I take a fake sick day to play civ, it's my privilige..)

                            yes sir

I meet with my employees and tell them they are an intricate prt of the process

Just like I am a manager, a leader by examply not a dictator

and I have never, ever terminated an employee

I have "executed" a part of the process that began and ended with them

                            I cannot do it all

I need qualified depenable people to perform a function

I am grfateful for those that do

I also take it poersonally to train each and everyone to know their job and do it

I take a lot of energy but is well worth it
