Answer, according to the rabbis - the noachide laws can be derived using HUMAN REASON - gentiles are therefore, only obliged to make their ethics based on human reason, and if they do so, they are ok.

How in the hell did Judaism spawn such violent children? I mean, some of that stuff under Moses sure wasnt reasonable, but I gotta admit Judaism seems more rational in alot of ways.

Paul prophecied that a Great Apostasy would come when the "man of sin" was revealed. This is stated in Thessalonians. He was referring to the pope and the great apostasy of Roman Catholicism, and the idolatries that it would promote. The Roman Catholic Church is also the Harlot of revelation. The Old Testament symbolized this as Israel in Babylonian captivity, except when it happened to Christians it was a spiritual captivity.

Whenever the scripture mentions a whore, it symbolizes Israel, or the people of God, going after false gods and cheating on the "true God". Namely, selling your soul to false gods. So when Revelation mentions a whore it is referring to a false Church. The whore of Revelation 17-18 refers to the Roman Catholic CHurch, which sits in Rome, the "city of seven hills".

Its my understanding that references to "The Whore of Bablyon" were code for the Romans/Rome. They used code to avoid persecution for their ideas. What proof do you have this was a reference to a Pope far off in the future and not the Rome that was persecuting both Jews and Christians - the Rome of their day? It just doesn't sound logical that Jews and Christians of that era would be more concerned with some future Pope than the Romans that were trampling their lands and burning their Temples and committing all sorts of atrocities. Do you see my point?

Without or without the prophecy the Roman Catholic Church contradicts the word of God.

To your point though- its a double fulfillment. Many biblical prophecies have a double fulfillment that repeats itself many times. For example the first abomination of desolation mentioned in prophecy was in reference to the Greek capture of the jewish temple. But Christ reiterates that same theme predicting the same abomination will inhabit the temple- this time from the Romans. Also, Israel represents the Church of God- one is a model for the other. The biblical themes usually repeat themselves time and time again.

Another reason why the whore couldn't be the pagan romans is that prophecy always uses the imagery of a whore to refer to the people of God themselves, when they have gone astray from God. And you will notice at the beginning of Revelation Christ starts to mention churches that, during the time of the Apostle John, were already starting to go astray.

Pagan Rome was not defeated on one day, but slowly as the barbarians invaded.

The original Protestant Reformers understood the prophetic significance of Roman Catholicism and devoted whole treatises, sermons, and outlines to it. It is something that is still adhered to among conservative presbyterians and calvinists, but in general protestantism has become rather ignorant with regard to the danger of the RC Church.

Granted this is a possibility, but one raised by people arguing to add to the list of "Whores". We could throw even the kitchen sink onto that list to support our own view. I'm not a Catholic (although baptised without my permission ) and I would agree alot of that stuff they have and do, including the idolatry, violates the teachings of Jesus, but thats true for so much of organised Christianity. The only real Christianity I see is in individuals and how they interact with others and they dont even have to call themselves Christians.

Using Paul's more covert condemnations of the Romans who were obviously deserving to condemn future Popes is too much of a stretch. But I'm considering the notion that it was the Catholic Church because of the analogy - the Whore of Babylon was a reference to the captivity in Babylon = the spiritual captivity of the Church that Rome spawned. I understand the Jews were actually treated well in Babylon because of some Jewish prophet's visions helping the King. This may have produced a schism within the Jewish comminity in Persia with many people assimilating into the culture while the Jewish fundies complaining about the loss of their cultural identity, even their Jewish spirituality. Short of extermination, assimilation was the greatest threat facing the Jews, so alot of their religion must be seen thru that prism. Alot of it was never meant for the human race.
