Who talks about 80's? Anyhow, even in late 80's Soviets exported COMPLICATED STUFF like heavy machinery, etc. Modern capitalist Russia still can't reach the Soviet level of 1991, not to mention 80's. Tzarist has Russia never exported machinery or weapons. It relied on imports of both machinery (that's why its agricalture sucked) and weapons (was anable to win WW1).

During the Somolian famine, Somolia was exporting food. Just because a country exports food doesn't mean that the country is feeding its people. Tsarist Russia was a living hell for the vast majority of its people. Even Stalin's USSR was an improvement for the majority of Soviets.
