Discovery of a New Element

A major research institution has recently announced the discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science.

The new element has been named "Governmentium."

Governmentium has 1 neutron, 12 assistant neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons, and 224 assistant deputy neutrons, giving it an atomic mass of 312.

These 312 particles are held together by forces called morons, which are surrounded by vast quantities of particles called peons.

Since Governmentium has no electrons, it is inert.

However, it can be detected, because it impedes every reaction with which it comes into contact.

A minute amount of Governmentium causes one reaction to take over four days to complete, when it would normally take less than a second.

Governmentium has a normal half-life of 4 years; it does not decay, but instead undergoes a reorganization in which a portion of the assistant neutrons and deputy neutrons exchange places.

In fact, Governmentium's mass will actually increase over time, since each reorganization will cause more morons to become neutrons, forming isodopes.

This characteristic of moron promotion leads some scientists to believe that Governmentium is formed whenever morons reach a certain quantity in concentration.

This hypothetical quantity is referred to as "Critical Morass."

When catalyzed with money, Governmentium becomes Administratium --- an element which radiates just as much energy as Governmentium, since it has half as many peons but twice as many morons.

I cannot believe how monumentally stupid Harper can be. The main election story today is about how Harper will try to repeal gay marriage. It wasn't in his prepared remarks but he addressed it in some later off-the cuff comments. Now all he really said is that he would support a free vote on the issue but why why why why would he talk about it at all. He must know

1. he won't get the votes to change anything
2. Its an issue that doesn't gain him anything. ANYONE strongly opposing gay marriage is probably voting conservative anyway.
3. The Liberals will make a lot of hay about this

why not just a non-answer like "There are issues which we believe deserve greater focus like health care and the economy and we plan to focus our attention on that"??? Does he think the social conservatives will desert him if he does not reiterate his position on day ONE of the campaign??

It's his party's policy to seek a free vote on whether they should introduce legislation should they form a government. It isn't even a policy to introduce legislation, it's a vote on starting the process of bringing a bill to the house. Do we want this? No, OK, let's move on. It is a sop to the social conservatives.

He was asked a question, and he answered it, honestly.

This is good and it is bad. He blew the bomb up himself, right at the start. Now it can't be blown up on the Conservatives if and when they get any momentum. Of course, they are going to have to get some momentum to start with.

Whats so bad! What so good? BS they make more money than we do. Well i certainly hope the US goverment wouldn't have higher taxes, collecting off 300 million as opposed to 30 million. Half their infrastructure is in better climate, how many times do you have replace a road in the southern states

And just earlier in this thread someone was trying to tell me that Harper wasn't trying the emulate the moronic rightwing leadership to the south. Oppressing the gays is a Bush forte is it not?

Thats my point. I think he HAS the social conservatives . . . I just think stressing this issue raises its importance in the eyes of the social liberal and hurts him

I think it was bad and bad. The start of the campaign is when you have the greatest chance to be heard. Even though it was not his focus yesterday, today the papers are full of gay marriage. so the focus of the first day is not corruption or good governance or any number of other messages that would play well for Harper-- instead its social conservatism and it just reinforces for people that this guy holds different views on social issues than the majority of Canadaians
