C'mon, more debates, these threads are usually good to read.
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

      Compare this:
Sampson says with the brutal beatsin, the sexual assaults and the solitary confinement, he likely came close to going insane a few times early on in his incarceration. But at some point, his fear turned to intense anger at both his captors and at the Canadian government, which he insists did very little to help him.

with the quick response of the Liberal government to the "plight" of the Kahdars who use their Canadian citizenship merely as a flag of convenience. Are actions like this going to be an issue in the upcoming election?

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

Doubtful - I would suspect that most Canadians would be far more concerned about the Conservatives "scary secret agenda" the Liberals will try to tar and feather them with (again).
If at first you don't succeed, take the bloody hint and give up.

You mean the fact that they hate anyone who isn't white?

The Tories are unelectable. If, by some miracle, they do form a government, it won't last long.

People like NYE (and the rest of the population of Alberta) are political relics, so don't bother listening to their outdated opinions.
          Only feebs vote.

I see a return of actual monarchists as unlikely.

not in the "divine power" way, but in other ways: there are monarchists as we speak. the large number of authoritarian leaders, who do enjoy substantial public support for their rule, and prep up their sons and daughters to take their place after their death. Now, if you couple this with new-age mysticism, even a true monarchy can be made possible.

Specifically, this is common in many corporations, and soon corporations will replace the government.

Wow did you need a calculator to figure out that 75 is not half of 308

Seriously though-- even if the Bloc took all 75 Quebec seats, getting 154 of the the other 233 is possible but not that probable given current politics. THe challenge is finding a way that your combined opposition only takes 79 seats.

If you assume that the NDP won't form the government but that they will get a minimum of 15 seats, the math gets tougher.

This election will likely come down to whether or not people's disgust with what the LIberals have done can outweigh their fear about what a Stephen Harper government MIGHT do.

Its a weird one where a pretty much status quo Liberal minority might be the most likely result (perhaps with a reduced number of Liberals though). ITs actually tough to see either party gaining a majority. Consider the status quo:

                      1. The Liberals are 19 seats short -- I cannot see the Liberals GAINING significant seats in the west and we'll probably see them drop a few in Quebec. The Liberals already have 22 of 32 in Atlantic Canada . .. They could grow there but I don't think so. That leaves Ontario where only a landslide can do it

My bottom line . . . I would find it odd for a government to go from minority to majority when the major story of their term is a major corruption scandal.

                      2. The Conservatives have a tougher fight. They are 56 seats away from the majority. With respect to the West, they already hold all but 23 seats and gaining even 10 of those would probably be considered a victory. Atlantic Canada could yield 10 more, but Quebce will probably be number ZERO so even on optimistic scenarios, the Conservatives would need to pick up say 36 seats in ONtario.

MY bottom line-- They appear to have firmer support in their strongholds but 56 seats appears to be too many to make up

If nobody suffers a knockout blow, its tough seeing a majority materializing. My prediction at THIS stage would see the Liberals drop seats and the Conservatives gain, probably to the point that there will be some question as to which party will lead a minority

ON a personal level, I just find that I cannot support the liberals. While on an ideological level I can support many of their policies, their long stint in power has led to SUCH rampant corruption .

THat leaves me with my usual conundrum. I find the conservatives are too far right for me on social policy but pretty good on economics. Conversely I like the NDP ( I always have and admire people that take on the job of continually fighting issues while knowing they will never govern) but at the same time I am fundamentally opposed to their approach to economic issues.

Either way, I am an anyone but the Liberals in this election ( not that my individual vote will sway anything in my Calgary riding)
