  • There are only two teams that have a winning record in the top 10 of turnover ratio (Indy and Carolina) that are also a top 5 Total Defense...

And those teams just happen to be two of the highest scoring teams in the NFL.

Indy at 30 ppg, Carolina at 24 ppg... (27 before playing the Bears! )

So there is a DIRECT CORRELATION between having a good offense and having a high turnover ratio.

Which is why winning teams like Dallas, Chicago, and Tampa Bay (the 1, 2, and 6 NFL defenses) don't have high turnover ratios.

This is why I am an NFL FOOTBALL EXPERT and you are not.
To us, it is the BEAST.

    • Yes. It's always good when your offence causes turnovers...

      • the turnover ratio measures TAKEAWAYS BY THE DEFENSE and SUBTRACTS TURNOVERS BY THE OFFENSE

                  • Um ... Sava, why does good offense correlate with high turnover ratio?

Oh yeah... because not turning the ball over means you score more points.

Good offense requires NOT turning the ball over. Good defense does not require getting turnovers, although it doesn't hurt. Therefore, good offenses who also have good defenses are going to tend to have better turnover ratios than bad offenses with good defenses (and i'd argue good offenses with poor/mediocre defenses, such as Cincy, would also have better TO ratios than good defenses/poor-mediocre offenses). Simply put, it's more important to the offense than to the defense.

Edit: That's what I get for not reading the preceding page's posts.

                    Apparently I AGREE with sava...

well, this is not always necessarily true...

look at New England, St. Louis, and to a lesser extent, Arizona...

good offenses, but poor turnover ratios...

My rounding isn't off, I just added the winning percentages and divided by 11.

The rounding made the winning percentages a little off when added together.
