In any event, there are some reasons why a private company wouldn't launch near the equator. It all depends on the customer's wishes. NASA likes its flights out of Cape Canaveral. The Air Force likes its flights out of Vandenberg.

This goes both ways, however. The Malaysians want their flight out of the Marshall Islands because of proximity. Bigelow Aerospace probably wants their flights out of the Marshall Islands because they can put more payload up for the same price.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

It's really fun to listen to the ground controllers.

Yeah, it's like listening to some ancient priests calling and praying to the gods. You just sit there, dont understand a thing, and just watch with awe at how they handle nature. Of course, here it actually works. Sometimes.

                      • They are now in an unplanned hold because the salvage ship for the first stage is in the impact zone for the first stage. Oops!

                          • Dunno. Looks like this will be cleared up soon, one way or another.

Edit: Picking up the countdown in 15 minutes with 1:15 left on the clock.
