What constitutes "rape".

We may picture a man forcing himself on a woman, who is resisting and/or saying or screaming "No!".

Everyone agrees this is rape. Most would consider this to be not a woman's fault.

But the whole question of "partially responsible" speaks to the debate we had about black Africans being partially responsible for slavery.

If a woman spends an evening in the clubs with a man, lets him buy her dinner and drinks, dresses and talks provocatively, fondles and kisses him and accepts an invitation first to his apartment and then to his bedroom. Where they undress and engage in foreplay, before she changes her mind and says no.

The man, in my opinion, is completely unjustified in proceeding with further advances.

But the woman, certainly, must understand that her actions greately increased the likelihood of having intercourse forced upon her. Does that not make her actions "partially responsible" for rape?

Of course, then there's the "rape" that happens when a women who gets drunk and willing changes her mind the next morning. Or the day after, when the guy doesn't call; or when her boyfriend finds out.

These are not uncommon occurences.

Even after all that, up to this point, I still don't think the woman was even partially responsible.


You can't blame a woman for her rape anymore than say, blaming a gay man for being beaten to death for hitting on the wrong guy at the wrong time.

a) make it more likely that you will get raped
b) make it more likely that you will not get raped

I think we all are in agreement that the only person to blame for the rape is the rapist, but responsibility of the event can be evenly shared if one does (a)...

In the UK a women cannot rape a man. There's no law against it, due to the way rape is defined.

Well, rape is defined as a forcible penetration of the man's penis into the women. A women cannot penetrate a man, so she cannot rape him.
