I enjoyed his books as well but the pace of the story has become as glacial as "The Wheel of Time".

Tyrion has became my favorite character after his answer to the question "How would you like to die?". I laughed so hard at his original answer that my wife wondered what was so funny. It was a joke she would not have approved of.

Ok, so you like this book by George Martin. But does it even contain any new stuff about The Beatles?

Jeez! One 'bridge' book and suddenly it's become "Wheel of Time"?

I've heard of spoiled fans before, but yikes!

          Guilty.
I thought the pace was slowing after book two.

Yeah, I was hoping this thread would be about THE George Martin too
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
            Once again...

You thought it was slow in Storm of Swords?!

I'll have to go back. Its been a while and I may be getting my books mixed up.

only about 250 pages into AFFC, but Cersei needs to DIE! Her chapters just bug me.

I am starting to like Jamie though.

Yeah I didn't like Jaime AT ALL until book 4, and he only gets better. Especially with the catapult bit...

That's about where I am, and yeah, she sucks.

With the first three, I could hardly put the books down. AFFC just isn't having that effect on me. Whenever I see "Samwell" as the next chapter heading, the book gets forgotten for a week or so. He just bugs me and doesn't need the treatment he's getting in my opinion. GRRM could have just shipped him off and had him come back later and I wouldn't have missed him. Kind of like he did with Rickon. Remember Rickon?

Except, you know, that Rickon is going to end up as some sort of prophesied uber-hero who is going to kill dragons with his bare hands .

And I liked the Samwell chapters. A good view of things from a self-professed coward. Not everyone is super brave in this epic adventure. And you have to love reading about Cersei dealing with her plans not having the proper... finish.

His name is also way too close to "Samwise", so I always picture him looking like Sean Astin.

Cersei eventually gets what she deserves. Jamie has gotten more likeable but I haven't quite forgiven him for screwing his sister and putting the kids on the throne.

Just finished it up this morning. A good read and seemed to get better as the book went on.

The Cersei chapters did get better as the book went on. The changes in the Jamie/Cersei relationship were pretty entertaining. I thought I had an idea what he was going to do with Samwise, but his last chapter put a twist on that idea.

Finally finished. Took me so long that I had completely forgotten who Pate was. I knew the name was familiar...

So Cersei gets what's coming - I too liked her chapters more and more as I went along. Still struggled through Sam Gamgee... err, I mean Sean Astin... err... Samwell chapters. Blah, blah, blah at sea, blah blah blah in Braavos, blah blah blah at sea, and then Pate. That name looks familiar....

I actually hope Brienne isn't really dead. I was liking the whole butch knight errant thing. Sansa seems to be coming into her own (finally). And I liked Jamie's final act - hope that means he lets her rot.

Oh, and the ironmen. Yeah. They were ok chapters. I'm starting to like Euron.

Looking forward to getting back to my two favorite characters - Tyrion and Dany (with Bran/Summer a close third).
