Then it is time for letting Bush's give aways to the top 1% expire, simplifying the tax code by eliminating corporate pork, improving education via higher standards (no more "intelligent design" nonsense in science classes), universal health insurence, fixing the worthless corporate pork riddled medicare drug benifet that costs and arm and a leg yet doesn't actually cover very many people, changing medicare rules so that Medicare can actually buy drugs at current retail price instead of only at MSRP, drastically cut back on the campaign contributions which are the source of most of Washington's corruption, end the torture in overseas prisons, restore civil liberties curtailed by Bush & his cronies, eliminate the huge waste and expensive duplicate or unneeded weapon systems to help balance the budget (Star Wars, the crap striker, the new rifle which performs worse then the M-16 and costs 4 times as much, no need for three new air superority fighters, etc), free movement of labor with in NAFTA, put an end to wasteful farm subsidies by negotiating with the EU to do the same then going ahead with FTZofA, the possibilities are limitless.

I'd also like to see more about empowering the average citizen by enforcing anti-trust laws, massively increasing the small business administration to help more people become their own boss & create jobs, end the hemeraging of money in Iraq by phasing the withdrawl & doubling or tripling the effort to train Iraqis, stop alienating the world and rebuild relationships with allies by becoming a responsible member of the international community. We can't get energy independence but we can drastically cut back our dependency by increasing CAFE standards, cutting green house gas output by advancing nuclear power to the level France & Japan use, make a big push into urban light rail and highspeed intercity rail for short to medium distances, and improve the building code to create more energy efficent buildings. These are important issues which Republicans won't deal with but Democrats can.

The DLC has offered this plateform.

-Increase troop strength in the armed forces by 100,000 active duty. This will lower the op tempo and stop the exidus of experienced people we are now seeing.

      - Require all college campuses to allow ROTC and recruiters on campus in order to get federal education funds.

      - Reduce dependence on foreign oil by 25 by 2025 in order to stop funding terrorism.

      - Create jobs and promote exports by making the US the top producer of energy efficent products and technologies.

      - Cut $300 billion in subsidies (both agricultural and corporate subsidies) and use the money to fund education, small businesses, and increased access to health care.

      - Pass tax reform to replace 68 tax breaks with 4. College, home, kids, pension savings.

      - Adopt a uniform system for media ratings which will tell parents what is in the media (I.E. violence, sex, etc) instead of the current system which has the media companies simply saying "This game is for 13 year olds or up" without saying what is actually in the game/movie/song.

      - Ban marketing of violence to children.

      - Enact a vulontary system of national service to promote public works. Vastly expand AmericaCorp and offer college graduates to completely repay their student loans via service.

      - Pass lobbyist reform to close the revolving door and stop the few buying the costum legislation they want.

      - Ban partisan gerrymandering to allow voters a real choice.

      - Government should lead the way to greater energy efficiency. Require the government's motor vehicle fleet to be entirely hybrid by 2010. This will encourage automakers to build hybrids since it will give them an assured market plus it will save a lot of gas.

      - Big increases in CAFE over the next ten years to decrease our fuel consumption.

I think they forgot to tell CA that.

Does that involve banning PG-13 movie trailers?

Oh, of course... but I just wanted to broaden it a bit.
