Which is a good thing, a person with a life sentence can be freed if a higher court overturns a conviction, you can'ty bring a innocent person that was executed back to life (which is why I am against the death penalty, there is NO evidence showing that the death penalty makes society safer, it is just barbaric retributive punishment, so you can't use that as an excuse for executing innocent people).

I disagree. With dna testing, the chances of a mistake are slim.

But the chance is still there, and will always be there, therfore the DP will allways be immoral since you can get the same amount of safety with a life setence instead.

            No you can't, Odin.
What does a man locked up for life, no chance of parole, have to lose? He's no different than someone on death row.
Do you have any idea at all, the drain on society housing prisoners?
Now if you want to go dump their asses off on some island, ala Papillon , ok. I could live with that.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a slam Texas because a prisoner escaped.
            Only happens here, right?
So y'all press on with the bash-fest.

Why use the DP, its cheaper to keep them in prison for their whole life and reserach shows its not a deterrent. Plus like Odin said the murder of one innocent person isn't worth it.

My take: it's irrelevent. Either way, there will be very little impact on society. The cost of imprisoning those who would be killed is trivial and the deterrent isn't important, especially given the fact that violent crime is way down. On the other hand, I honestly don't care if we kill some murderers and even if we occasionally kill an innocent.

Last thing I have to say is, it is not cheaper.
Some liberal lawyer has been blowing smoke up your ass.
I won't even get started on innocents. The victim was usually innocent.

If its trivial why even risk killing an innocent person.

                      Ok, i misspoke.
What makes it close, or let's say more expensive even to pacify you, are the very appeals of which I spoke.
DD didn't start a dp thread though.

I'm curious why you're debating the DP in this thread. The issue at hand would be the same regardless of the sentence the fugitive was escaping.

It costs 2 million dollars to carry out an exuction, it usally costs about 600,000-800,000 dollars to keep some for a life sentence, depending on the age when they comitted the crime.

Because I consider very few issues less important than this.

Have they caught the guy yet Sloww? Any discussion in the media on how a fiasco like this might be avoided in the future?
