Well now I'm somewhat curious what Canada and Europe would do if we "forced" them to keep the fugitives.

Of course I don't what you mean, since that's not proper grammar

As for the role of the fool, you've already taken the jester's position. No room for me .

Europe would keep them... it's kind of against their European law to extradite people facing the death penalty.

Yes, I am a male, and my member is rather large, so I happen to be arrogant about it. Thanks for noticing.

Re: Chemical Ollie's gut feeling that Thompson "doesn't seem to be dangerous to anyone else than his ex-gf, whom he already killed."

                    'No response'

The juror said that as he watched Thompson during the trial, he kept expecting him to show some emotional reaction to the recounting of the murder case, or to allegations that he had tried to arrange murders-for-hire from his prison cell.

"He sat there for five days and he had no response, no facial response at all during what was some of the most heart-breaking, tear-jerking testimony you could imagine," the juror said. "When the son of the woman who was killed testified ... you could hear sobs throughout the courtroom."

The juror said he asked Thompson's court-appointed lawyer, Terry Gaiser, why defense attorneys didn't attempt to get Thompson to show remorse. "His answer was 'because there was none,' " the juror said.

"This guy is dangerous. He is a cold-blooded killer who will strike out at anyone and anybody who gets in his way," the juror said.

The other juror said his stomach "knotted up" when he first heard a car radio report about Thompson's escape. "I knew immediately it was him."

"People need a close-up perspective from a common citizen who served on the jury ... don't get in this guy's way," the juror said. "If he tells you to step aside, step aside.

"He is the most dangerous of the dangerous."

Could we get a clarification on whether opponents of capital punishment are bleeding-heart liberals or lacking empathy with victims?

Anyway, Texas is doing its bit to reduce the overpopulation of America's prisons

Kuciwalker - I follow your argument. It is a very dangerous argument. I know you are smart enough to take the DP out of the argument and substitute other crimes. What threshold must possible injustice meet to make it "important enough"?

Some societies agree with you, especially in Asia. Both Singapore and the People's Republic of China, to take two variations on that theme, do. Given their populaton pressures, ethnographic mix, et al it makes a certain kind of sense. I disagree with them, but I can see the rationale behind their mindset. Look at both those societies, and see if you agree with the repercussions of your arguing that the DP argument, and the societal good aspects that the leadership in both those countries firmly believes it is practicing.

I instead prefer "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance". Once you start giving the little things a pass, then you start giving slightly bigger things a pass. Remember, you've already established it's "OK" to give injustices a pass, now it's arguing over how big, and what the proper threshold should be. I don't want to live in that country.

It works in countries like Finland. Much better than what you're doing anyway. You people pay zillions of dollars for prisons that don't work... Going in jail a small time thief and coming out a damn gangster means you're not having a good policy

in America, prison is one of a few things...

a place where a convict will be sexually victimized or otherwise assaulted...

"criminal college" where small time crooks go to learn how to become bigger crooks

our prison system is a horrible system... it does not rehabilitate at all... it is a nightmarish, hellish place where even more crimes are committed...

IMO, there should not be general population prisons at all... there is too high a risk of violence and opprotunity for smuggling in drugs... I think there needs to be a major overhaul in the way we incarcerate criminals.

First, we need to stop locking up minor, non-violent drug offenders. Prisons are over-crowded and locking these people up does not help society, the prison system, nor anyone involved. It is better, if at the very least, that non-violent drug offenses are decriminalized.

Second, there needs to be a radical change in the way prisons are run. There should be no general population. Inmates should not be allowed to socialize and congregate. Gangs should not be allowed to form. This is prison, not social hour. I'm not suggesting 24 hour lock down or isolation... But smaller, more manageable groups... But there should definitely not be, at any time, any sort of gathering of inmates.

Third, because violence is so common and is not likely to be reported due to fear of revenge and such, there should be surveillance EVERYWHERE. I am talking BIG BROTHER to the extreme. There needs to be accountability for everyone. If there are any acts of violence by inmates or even guards, it will be seen. And the system needs to be constructed in a way that the camera cannot be "turned off" at a convenient time.

I don't have much experience in prisons, but these are just some ideas I have based upon my limited knowledge. However, I do think I know enough to make some suggestions. But I do think we can all agree that there is a problem and a solution needs to be found. Does anyone know if there have been any studies done on this subject?

not that it matters here but the store slow is refering to was actually an oshmans and they escapees were int here for weapons and ammo. They got all of thoe that were at the store however there were four more of those folks that were apphrended in denver colorado where the last one ofed himself in a trailer park . the texas 7 were the called and at leat two of them were not from texas. and out of the others they have been travelling aound other states.
I agree with slow this is a texas bash and thats fine bash on. Cause as every one of us who sits here we know that convicts dont escape from other states or cities. Texas is the big bad state that all evil comes from. As I said before I will remember to tell my children they are all evil cause they had the unfortunate benefit of being born in texas
