Either I haven't made myself clear enough, or you have misunderstood me a bit

In my view, religion can never be an explanation or excuse for any kind of violent action.

I don't know the precise term in english, but trying to to "excuse" ones crimes because it was because of religius reasons, should be the reason of harder punishment.

There are no excuse in claming "I just did it because of my religioius belief" !!!

Religions has proven itself to be the best and most common excuse for violence ever. After all, what are mere human morals to the will of the almighty? And besides, heathens and infidels are damned anyways, so lets just get them to hell faster.

You are quite right that there are a lot of other reasons to commit genocide etc. but I really wouldn't mind if the prime reason to such in human history was for ever eradicated - then we could work to get rid of all the other reasons.

It has also ecouraged great acts of charity and empathy (Mother Theresa, etc). religion is neutral, it is how people USE religious belief to manipulate people for good or bad ends which is good or evil.
