Who were the experts? Why does the article have to call them experts? Because its simple speculation, so to include it as "worthy", you have to confer special powers to the speculators.

The bolded part is the black humor. Largely because it is so jarringly inappropriate to ask a question like that. Incidentally, it might entirely be possible that when he sees a hot girl, he loses his head.

The unsaid portion was, "Would we be as outraged if these were 3 ugly middleaged old men?" Not that they deserve death any more or less, but the idea of 3 female kids (which we prolly assume, unconsciously, are 'hot' ) boils our blood that much more. So why is that?

It might be the whole putting women on a pedestal thing; might be the fact that they're children, with most of their lives to look forward to.

Either way, it's a tragedy; honestly, however, I think it's the fact that the media knows specifically what will boil people's blood, what will bring eyeballs.

It's why they focus so much on white princess abductions (*coughHollowaycough*), or murders of women and children. Men, though they believe themselves to be enlightened, will still have that slight streak in them that wishes to protect those they perceive as "weaker". Honestly, I don't know why I should be enormously upset. It's a horrible crime, yes. I don't think anybody's arguing against that. I just don't understand what you expect me to want after reading this.

There has IIUC, been some pretty nasty sectarian violence in this region in the past, and manner of death would seem consistent with what some radical islamists have done elsewhere, so it seems unlikely that this is common murder.


The Indonesians, IIUC, have had a somewhat greater inclination to "catch and release" terrorists and terror supporters, then some other states have had in the last few years. Hopefully, this statement is the beginning of a change to a firmer approach.
