So far I've only tried the default settings. I wanted to see how the standard game worked before using the many options. It does seem like the AI needs a little more in the standard game.

Btw, I've traded with the AI quite frequently. Usually my friends were those of the same religion as me.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

In this game most have one type of religion, there was only one who didn't want that religion, so he asked me to join, but I refused. Two turns later he changed religion, but not to the one everybody is using, but to some other religion nobody uses
In my last game I shared a continent with the Germans, I was the first player to invent a religion, and shortly after I got the Germans to convert (all their cities had my religion)... but that didn't last long, because shortly after they invented a religion and made it their state religion. This changed their attitude towards me because "I was fallen under a wrong religion"... great! Because of this I decided to take their holy city, so I at least still could get the benefits of the religion... but only had that city for a few days before they discovered another religion (and one more shortly after)
So in the end I just took all their cities and had 4 holy cities on a very small continentThis space is empty... or is it?

Gah! Stop tempting me! My friends, my sleep, my work... They can't do with Civ4!"I have been reading up on the universe and have come to the conclusion that the universe is a good thing." -- Dissident
"I never had the need to have a boner." -- Dissident
"I have never cut off my penis when I was upset over a girl." -- Dis

The only problem I'm having with the game thus far are the graphics. My current vidcard is 64mb and they recommend 128mb, so all they settings are at Teh Suck level. I'm ordering a 256mb through newegg; specs edited into this post later if requested.Tutto nel mondo è burla

I'm enjoying the game, although I'm still figuring out basic stuff (despite being a playtester - I didn't have all that much time for the playtest, so I'm pretty close to a newbie like everyone else).
It's going to take me a while to sort through all the different possibilities - there is definitely more strategic depth (this was a major developmental priority) in CivIV.
As per my normal approach, my first several games have all been mostly peaceful builder style. Next I'm gonna pick an aggressive civ (maybe w/the organized trait too) and go on a rampage.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

I've decided I'm not going to get it yet. Why? The same reason I'm not going to start doing heroin.
and anyway no-none seems to be selling civ4 around here. heroin, otoh, is everyfrickinwhere and cheaper. but I'm strong. no drugs, no civ. please watch over me jesus.
