According to my experience with Macs, the game will freese up every half hour.
According to my experience with PCs, you will not even have a chance to start the game before being bombarded with messages about Unused Desktop Icons and DANGER ALERT WILL ROBINSON messages from Windows Security.
I also have the "will Civ4 run" on my outdated hardware problem.....for now a new comp is not an option, but maybe I upgrade to a new CPU plus mainboard etc.....

I'm about to add my opinion to the growing ranks of those who have played. Today is the last day at my current job, so it looks like ripe time to pull an all-nighter.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).
I'm am avoiding this game, as I just got over my Battlefield addiction and am not looking to start another.
Wish I was still in college to be able to do things like this.
We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution. - Abraham Lincoln
The only problem I'm having with the game thus far are the graphics. My current vidcard is 64mb and they recommend 128mb, so all they settings are at Teh Suck level. I'm ordering a 256mb through newegg; specs edited into this post later if requested.
The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.
The Weighted Companion Cube is cheating on you, that slut.
How's the diplomacy in Civ 4? I'm a SMAC'er and Civ 3 really, REALLY disappointed me in the diplomacy part. I love the depth that diplomacy plays in SMAC, where you can tell someone to give you what you want, they can tell you to go to hell, then give you what you want.
If Civ 4 has that kind of diplomacy, I might be persuaded to picking it up....MAYbe.

Well, in practice the UN doesn't work like the planetary council at all. You get diplomatic penalties with nations who don't share your ideology (SE choices) or religion. AI doesn't really trade with you much, since most nations refuse to even discuss trading almost all the technologies, war declarations or things like that unless they really like you.
Wow, what an extended weekend that was . I'm off to sleep now before my brain explodes from tiredness

People, stop browsing these forums, and buy it -- now!
There are a few bugs like AI controlled civs freezing, units disappearing during resynchs (hard to avoid in MP), the button used to scroll through the list of MP games doesn't seem to work for me, and there seems to be some sort of memory leak in the program as well. I have a gig of ram so things don't get bad until late game but atleast one reboot is needed to finish a game at a decent speed.

The AI needs a lot of work. Right now it doesn't seem to declare war much at all nor does it want to trade with you most of the time. I've only played noble so far so that might effect it but I doubt it since the AI doesn't change with difficulty; it just gets more free units and more production/lower costs.
That's why there is an "Aggressive AI" option, Oerdin.
